Well, i am trying to install the rzr-hal2 release. But after selecting "Full install only, do not start" and hitting "Continue", the installer just closes and nothing happens.. anyone found a fix?
Cheers!

It's because of the following:
Activate.exe:
The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.
No idea how to fix it though.
UPDATE: further info posted below from the application log in Event Viewer:
Activation context generation failed for "F:\Activate.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.762" could not be found.
UPDATE 2: Installed the vcredist.msi found in the redists folder on the root of the game disc. No more side-by-side error, but still drops to desktop.

fucking microsoft.... is there no way to get this game running under XP? im sure the game still uses a normal executable file which can run on any 32/64bit system which supports directx and whatever calls it may make, but it probably has added code to check for vista before it will run. i wonder if any crackers can remove that code so it will at least try to run under any OS?

I just obtained a copy of the "Hackburner" halo release. This installer worked for me, so the problem is definitely with Razor1911's release.

Halo 2 - coming to XP
Wow, here's some interesting news... Falling Leaf Systems has announced that they will be providing compatibility software that will allow Halo 2, an exclusive Vista title, to run on Windows XP. If you order Halo 2 through their site, you'll get the compatibility libraries FREE when they're released (current estimate is July). Not sure how they plan to make any money... but this seems like a pretty cool thing for folks who'd love to play Halo 2, but can't justify the shift to Vista right now. (Louis Wu 14:25:33 UTC)
