There is no need to come in here askin as the rzr rar all 4kb its out there everywhere as is the whole things. As fer installing Vista, I realise there's plenty smarter tech heads here but today I thought I might try somethin I've been puttin off since I upgraded my sys couple weeks ago.

I have my XP OS on a sata 2 so I figure if I unplug that and plug in an empty seagate sata 2 I can try out a recent version of vista found on usenet last week. If it works grea I'll play Halo 2, if it doesn't tough shit I wasted a bit of sunday whichever I can go back to my XP install a piece of piss and maybe I'll like Vista (unlikely but who knows).

One thing is fer sure the nut can be cracked without wailing n gnashing of teeth that some seem to think is required.

[This is the correct sentence]

yeah and Vistas DX9L is SO compatible that when i wanted to run some DX9c game its said "DX9c not installed" Laughing

Vista is a nice system but the compability rate of it sucks

I'm no fan of the newest dx, however I cannot applaud [b]stupidity[b], you have to run the dx redist of dec2006 or newer for anykind of dx9 functionality in Vista, same as in XP.

i am only saying that DX10 is so amazingly compatible with other dx versions that you must have install older dx9c to run things - great work Microsoft

Some things work on the fly with the new API : Coh , new tomb raider , supreme comander other just say "install dx9c "

and now the question does dx9c will funge my vista after install or rewrite some important files or make some system drivers go loco

Breaking backwards compatibility was required to move forward.

No, it just installs the missing runtime updates (i.e. April 2007 runtimes).

I can confirm that the older release with the blindwrite image works with RAZOR's mf.dll patch.

Edit/appendage: This game is shit! I don't remember the Xbox version having such low res textures and crap models. Plus, the keyboard/mouse controls suck. The max sensitivity isn't even enough and the mouse/keyboard looking around feels awkward... It's hard to describe, but when you're moving and trying to look around simultaneously, the pointer doesn't do what you want. You'll see it if you play and it'll piss you off--it's just hard to put into words. I think MS/Bungie want to force you into using a 360 controller--what a joke.

Actually breaking backwards compatibility wasn't required. It's just another way for Mickey to promote they're products and make us think we can live without it...and they're doing a piss poor job at this too.
From what I've read on the net Halo 2 looks like a 2 year old shit but has the audacity to eat your resources like it's a completely new 2007 game(and even with these current batch of unoptimized games the requirements are highly questionable).
I'll try it eventually because I finished the first and liked the story but from my personal view the music is what makes this game really unique and deserves credit. The rest are non original copy/paste concepts.
Too bad PC Gaming is going down the drain but I won't go console retard either. It's sad to see that the only thing left pushing the PC industry forward are the greedy hardware manufacturers.

If you're talking about the older 'release' I mentioned, then it's not actually a scene release. It's been called "Halo 2 Vista PCDVD Hackburner" and IIRC, some wannabe p2p-lamer group called THUNDER released something as well.

Actually it was. To achieve the goal of bringing next generation graphics to the PC, it had to cut out all the rotting flesh you call "backwards compatibility". Yay, no more (accelerated) DX7 crap.

Halo 2 development began last year, if not earlier, on the XP platform. I agree, it looks like crap. That won't stop the kids from buying nine copies though.

Totally agree about nuking backwards compatibility. Only opens more room for exploits. Want an example? Look at the source engine. Dx7 and Dx8 exploits left and right, because they don't support dx9 effects such as smoke in Day of Defeat.

Oh, and by the way, hamachi is borked with H2V, even for legit users.

So i've been boycoting vista till today I installed it duel boot so I can switch between os's had no problem got all the current fixes & patches for my hardware that I could find. Tested out Company of Heroes DX10 mode to see if there was a significant difference in graphics & I noticed alot of nice things so far with lighting & shading even texture wise everything is rounder & nicer...So now I can enjoy the best of both worlds. when I want to play my dx9 games I boot to xp & when I want to get into the new dx10 only stuff well vise versa.

P.S. Its a good way to make the transition with the duel boot then you can mess with vista when you feel like it & at least get familiar with it.

Every time I've used dual boot a mob of issues seem to come with it and I gave up on it a coupla years back. Unless some more thoughtful advances have been made to partition magic I think I'll stick with hot swapping drives by hand. I'm stuck with one of those nasty Via chipsets until my new intel board turns up and that's enough of a pain in th ass as is without throwin partition magic into the mix.

The other alternative of installin Vista then using it's dual boot facility to re-install XP is even less attractive as that leaves Vista in control of the system.

I only install the OS on a separate hard drive. And use the CMOS to choose the boot device. When I install the OS I disconnect all the other hard drives.
