you shouldn't though
avi is an ancient container that doesn't support advanced codecs like h264 or ogg etc

MP4 isn't as advanced as Matroska either, but is tolerable. AVI is just bad.
Cox, be careful! Find a program that just replaces the container and not reencode the video. Don't know about SUPER, so I'm warning you anyway.

yes, i suppose mp4 is relatively competent as a standard container
though, simply remuxing into it would be more efficient time and qualitywise, not having to decompress and recompress all the video and audio
and subtitles might cause some trouble? no experience of this though
but if ease of use and .avi container is a must, super is a good way to go
just the potential subtitles would have to be demuxed into a seperate file or burned into the video stream

most mkv content these days is h264, which can't be muxed into .avi without completely mangling the container standard or specially crippling the videocoding with .avi in mind
ogg won't mux in either, and i'm not sure but not too confident that aac would either

AAC is sound codec. AAC should be muxed into MP4.
h264 content can be put in the AVI container, but I see no reason for that.

LeoNatan wrote: | MP4 isn't as advanced as Matroska either, but is tolerable. | Actually i went mp4 coz it was compatible with some hardware i have (cellphone, etc), as a common container to convert old .rm, .mov or .wmv files but also for media center where the 64-bit support was lacking for correct .mkv playback. s_hole wrote: | simply remuxing into it would be more efficient time and qualitywise | You can copy streams in super and certainly elsewhere. 'super' is not the panacea but it works in most cases.

Yes, lol, I know what streams means...
But for mkv, the best multiplexer is mkvtoolnix.
