I installed this late January and has been working since, but yesterday and today an info balloon pops up saying it's time to backup my data, and I have 12 days left
My copy is activated, so why does it say this? Is there a way around this without the need to reformat?

Were you dumb enough to use the brankenbuild way of activation? By frankenbuild I mean replacing some files of Vista RTM with Vista RC1/RC2.

Rolling Eyes You should have used the timerstop crack... I'm surprised it lasted that long.

Anyway, reinstall Vista and use the new bios emulation cracks or get the NoPE release with one built in (not recommended).

@ Adagio.81

No need to reinstall vista, AFAIR just remove the files of the previous crack, reboot in limited mode then in safe mode to apply the timerstop crack.

AFAIR the end of may was the end of the beta version tryout period.

$en$i, you can't just remove the old files... Once the license file is replaced and activated, it's done, no way back.

Well i have done it earlier this year mate, thus somehow it worked. Smile
AFAIR it worked by removing the two crack files and replacing them with the original ones, after reboot i entered the limited mode and the activation was invalided (dunno if i played with the bios date trick or rearm command there), finally i was able to enter safe mode and apply the timerstop early crack.

Maybe it is possible, but I think it isn't worth the hassle.. Razz

Anyway, the timerstop is really the last thing you should be using... Those BIOS emulation cracks are much more preferred.

What's wrong with the timerstop? If it can give me a few months extra, before I need to reinstall it will be perfect

And that's all that needs to be done? Where did you read about this?
What is limited mode?

I'll might give this a try, then do a complete reinstall when I have time... May is a too busy month

To allow people that have installed it for regular use to migrate to Vista when they can. That's a good thing actually.

Well the timerstop crack worked fine until now and is easy to remove, i also have a customized bios for my mobo thus until it is truly needed i prefer to leave this as it is. Smile

Well i tried by myself lol, as far as i remember as soon as your replace the frankerbuild crack two files with the original ones it will invalidate your validation at reboot, and you will then enter a limited mode where you are limited to have only few open files/windows, but there you can still reach the command prompt thru internet explorer then explorer, the command prompt you will use to change the date for the 2099 bios trick or use the rearm command, at the end i was able to install the timerstop crack either there or after another reboot which this time safe mode made available.
