Pentium D 3GHZ
2GB DDR2 RAM
ASUS nVidia EN7900GT 256MB PCI-Express
Media Magic PSU 700W Ultra quiet thingy
ThermalTake Big Typh 12VX thingy CPU Cooler Fan

i get the exact same problem with mine m8 Sad
its either an overheating problem, memory problem or a motherboard problem.
i returned my gfx card and they said there was nothing wrong with it yet i tryed it on my dads new setup and got exacly the same problem.
but going off what they said when i retuened my gfx card to the shop they said its ok.
i think the problem could be my motherboard?
the pci-e socket on mine is going aswell as the other sockets like the mem sockets etc.
but its hard to put my finger on the exact prob Sad
process of elimination im affriad m8.
keep us posted to see if you fix it?
btw try reseating your memory i done this and it went better for an hour or so then come back Sad

Thanks god i'm NOT THE ONLY ONE...i tought it would've been the PSU (Power Supply Unit),wich was of 420W and the nVidia card consumed 350W...and i tought there wouldn't be much energy for all of the components...i've changed my CPU Fan cooler to a Thermaltake one,so the air flowed better and less noise (1350RPM).

Check your graphic card's temperature..if it's an nVidia,it's at it's control panel Wink

I wonder -- Have you tried going back to a older version of the nvidia drivers? Are you both using the newest?

OK,the BETA drivers SUCKS...i've formatted my pc anyways coz it was startin' to suck ¬¬

Installed the latest,STABLE drivers from the official nVidia site..haven't tested any game...YET...

Remember: My card is an ASUS nVidia EN7900GT...i've read over there that it has overclocking/overheating Issues...like they're already over clocked or something...

GPU says it has 67Cª most of the times...it goes to around 72 when i play CC3TW...could it be an overclockin' thingy?...how can i repair this?

Downclock your card. Install rivatuner and lower the memory and core clock and see if the problem goes away.

67°C in idle? If no your GPU temp seems normal to me, try to test your card with atitool benchmarks to know how high goes your temp under heavy load before showing artifacts.

First temporary solution would be, like miragui said, to downclock your card with ntune, atitool or rivatuner. I just got the same trouble with an eVga 7900GT sc co card and its inefficient stock fan, with lately 28°C in the room the GPU temp was up to 85°C or worse and ugly artifacts were showing up. I downclocked a bit for some times then i put a Zalman VF900-Cu and the temp is down to 54°C under heavy load, artifacts being gone.

Are you sure downclockin' is ok?...my actual clock thingy, without marking the OC option on the nVidia control panel,is 450Mhz of Clock and 1.32Ghz on Memory.

How much i should lower it?

Lower it by 100-200mhz on the core and memory.

i haven't downclocked the card,but downloaded 3D Mark06 (keygen'ed) and ran it..

it normally goes to 28FPS on the 1st scene appareance of "Return to Proxycon" Demo, but when the 2nd scene appears (enemy soldiers appears) it goes down to 13FPS...

At some moments, the video FREEZES and the classic BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH appears, saying something about the "nv4_display" (.dll?) error..

Help?

EDIT: OK,i've turned off the PC,opened the case, remove the GFX Card and used an Air Duster thingy (ya kno',a can of compressed Air whatsoever),shooted it all over the card carefully, includin' the copper thingy like heatsinker and the Fan...plus shooted at other MoBo components (Were Dusty)

Inserted the GFX Card again, plugged the LCD Screen to it again (and the PSU's cable to the GFX Card) and turned the PC on again...

The "Killer" move i've did now is turning on my air cooler of my bedroom (a Mitsubishi Electric) in 18 grades,MAX Power...

The GPU,from the 68-72C at the beginning went down to...48-49C GREEN BARS!!!....

Is it anygood what i did?

PD: Re-installing CC3TW to see changes...but before that,3D Mark baby...

EDIT 2: OK,After havin' my PC like in a freezed Room (grinhurt) and GPU said it was at 48,i've runned all my Benchmark Tests and i haven't seen any single weird thingy on screen...

Now i closed the tower again and it shows that my GPU says it has 60C...Not Again!!..

So yes,it's overheating problem..plus i've putted my tower in another position so it doesn't aims the CPU Fan to a wall but to my legs.

One thing i've noticed is that my Big Typh 12VX CPU Fan (by ThermalTake) has like...hmmm..dunno how to spell it right...something you can turn..manual says it's to control the Fan Speed

Should i move it to the right so it goes more faster?..

Btw,at how much C should my GFX card be at normally?

FINAL EDIT?: Running CC3TW with my Tower in a better position makes the game run without those....weird things..thou the GPU Temp's goin' at 67-70...

@ DV2

nv4_display alike errors often appear because of overheating/overclocking.
Of course you should increase your fans speed as fast as it is possible without annoying you with the noise, trying to achieve the best airflow versus noise. Some try to have at least one 120mm fan in the front for intake and a 120mm in the back for exhaust, others prefer all fans in exhaust configuration...

According to guru3d for the 7900GS reference card it is 44°C in idle and 63°C in full load (w/ room temp 23°C).

Thx,will try something out with my Big Typh VX12 Fan ^^

as for the weird graphics, they don't appear anymore!!...but i'm thinkin' of letting my Tower open like forever to test airflow changes by modifyin' the CPU Fan (aka Big Typh VX12)

Ok,i've opened the Tower, set up the CPU Fan to the maximum possible speed without noise (that's what i've understood of you,Sensi) and it's runnin' at 2000RPM around (it's min. is 1300 and MAX 2000...that's why i chosed this Fan)..thou when i putted it to the max it made a bit of noisey, but atleast i can sleep with the PC on workin' on downloads grinhurt

I'll try buyin' a fan for the back of my tower (since i dunno if a fan for the front is possible here in spain..) to try if it would work when the Tower's case's closed..

We've got 8cm back tower fans over here in spain..are they ok?

air flow in the case really affects it ... I posted this pic before, but this is my current cooling solution.

If I close the case, I get random freezing and shit ... guess I need to install a fan for better airflow...

12CM TACENS Tower Case Fan doesn't fits in my tower,so i'm gettin' the 8CM (checked measures....X__X)

Yes,that's what i did while waiting...

The problem is that the MOTHER FUCKER who sold me the PC (ya kno,one of those "Customize your own rig) did NOT put a fan in it..............He's gonna pay soooooooo badly

OMG nohouse i would have bet that i was alone in the world with an external fan near the pc (mine however is closed and the air from the fan go inside from an opening in the side of the case) ... i have 4 (i say 4 !) fans inside the damned case my supplier gave me and i have to use the "external" one to get acceptable temps ... it does a little noise however ahah.

But, doesn't your case get full of dust letting it always open ???

hehe, it's nouseforaname, not nohouse (although I don't have a house either Razz)...

and yeah, it's starting to get a little dusty, plus I have 2 cats that shed fur even though they are shorthair ... although I have a can of compressed air to clean it every now and then.

my problem is the close proximity of the computer to the heater in my apartment ... it should be shut off for the summer soon, so I can close the case back up Smile

you talking to me deeeeeeeelixxxxxxxxxxxx? how would you know how it works?

the PSU is almost new, and the fan in it is as loud as a fucking airplane. there are no other fans in my computer, meaning shitty airflow. having the open case does the most, but even the fan lowers all temps by a couple degrees. my lazy ass needs to get out to the store and buy an 8 cm fan and install it Smile

my problem seems to of come from my psu it was a 600 watt generic psu that must nt of been giving out the correct amps or power as i ve just put in my dads new 500 watt psu and everything has cleared up except for when i put on the ani analysing settings they seem to come back only a bit when i select these options Sad
could also be an overheating problem Sad

get a new psu m8 although the 450 watt 1 u have now should be powerful enough ???

My babies room (pcs ahah) instead is exposed to the sun all day long and especially in summer it gets crazy hot like 32-35 °C ... i could try to buy a freezer to host the pc in summer Smile

Sorry again for the nick gaffe !!!
