|
 |
THE UPCOMING iteration of 3DMark will only be available for Windows Vista and DirectX 10.
In a bog post to the Futuremark website, Nick Renqvist says that "the next generation 3DMark will be Windows Vista only, and will require DX10 compliant hardware."
So why no fallback to DX9? Nick cunningly anticipates this point. "You may ask: Why not fallback to DX9 then?" Yes Nick, we just did. "Well, we already have a Vista enabled DX9 benchmark (3DMark06) and the last three 3DMarks have all been DX9".
So there you have it. Unless you're in the cool boys club with a nice GeForce 8x00 or Radeon 2x00, you won't be able to run a pointless number-generating programme with no actual real-world worth. So you might want to cry a little.
Interestingly, Nick says that the latest 3DMark will contain volumetric effects, based on DX10, that will bring "cinematic rendering" quality to the series. We've been waiting for cinematic rendering on our PC ever since Nvidia announced that it would be available to us all thanks to the awesome power of the GeForce FX5800. It still isn't. µ

Wouldn't be 3dmark anymore if they didn't push the boundaries.

Of course on the flipside, synthetic benchmarks are worth ZILCH. It's real performance in games that counts.
3DMark is really just for e-penis whores.

I think your wrong, though I see your point and its valid.
I for one like to see how software evovles, I dont really care about points... Also it pushes the hardware foreward, the software can only be as good as the hardware allows.
On the other hand, with all this shit the companys are pumping out, I might be wrong. The way the game marked have twisted the last couble of years, makes me sad.
HOW i the fucking hell, did they turn it,- so that releasing a uncompleted produkt... is ok? This patching-spree type of games is shit! I can understand if for something as complex as an OS, but a fucking game? BS! Its all about money and name now.

Games push the hardware. 3DMark is just a one time event every year.
It was always about money. Games are just much more complex now than before, especially PC games. And yes, games are utterly complex, no matter how simple they seem when you are playing them.

What, games? I just take one look at your setup and I realize why you might think that. Read my signature, last line.
If you are talking about 3DMark, it is supposed to be that way. It is supposed to drag your hardware down into the mud.

Like I said... Software pushes the hardware. (games = software)
Besides games was not allways about the money. Not on the pc. Consoles is a hole other matter.
Today things is alot different, not only unoptimized but also the feeling behind the game. Any dev today will shake at the word "dead-line". Hence the low-quality games, un-optimized and unendless-patching. Once it was about what would be really cool, now that is limited by "how fast can we get this out, and make a quick buck"
Take Far Cry for ex. a nonamer,- when it came out it was new, inovative and very ahead from the current games. You dont see EA spitting out quality like that, every year do you?
The big companys took this "new" popularity, the same way they did when mp3 arrived. I mean they tried shutting it down, instead of seing solutions. The only media I felt they worked well with was dvd... VHS is past now, but even with mp3, only now is mp3-online-sale started to flower(and thats only becouse they are forced to do it), after alot fights, lawsuits and scare-tactics.
How many patches was released for Doom, Dukenukem, Civilization and so on? If you look at current games, like Stalker, Gothic 3 they allmost dont even run on retail. And Im not talking perfomance wise, but bugs like getting stuck, inventory bugs and so on,- gameplay bugs.
Do you really belive that has anything to do with having the newest and best hardware? The hardware IS here my friend, but the software is not...

It just proves my point, games are more complex to make and more time consuming.

Not complex... Timeconsuming yes. But making the most uber-shader-hdr-rendering gfx-enging, do NOT mean quality. This you must agree on. See how many people still plays Counter Strike ? This was made by an amature FOR FREE !!

That is an ENTIRELY different matter from what we are talking about here.
Quality and complex are two different things.
So many kiddies still play Counter Strike because they cannot afford a new computer.

Hmmm funny, I thought it was the simple game, witch IS fun(ofcourse some dont like FPS, this is just IMO) easy online,- play with you friends type of game.. The key words are SIMPLE, FUN and FRIENDS. Anyone can play them. What makes you think WoW have this HUGE success? Its also simple in its basic form, and social with your friends...
But I do know what you mean. There are some us who demand higher and more advance games, with more gameplay options, more freedom, more choices, than just the average FPS. But little Peter dont wanna use 3 or 4 hours a day,- LEARNING the game, he just wants fun and fun NOW.

CS 1.6 is a parasite. I actualyl like CS: source but not on servers where people have no life and can nail you in the head from 342 meters away with a shotgun. It's fun to play with friends though.

I'm sure it is a bit of both. Kids have other priorities than upgrading their computers. Not to mention some are brainwashed. If you were only playing one game and only that, why would you bother upgrading? Same shit with WoW really.

ya. I also think that might be one of the downsides to PC gaming is it's too complicated to attract a younger crowd cause their used to consoles so its pop a game in and enjoy it. PC they have to go into options and set all these options to make the game run smooth and dont'r eally understand what does what and how they work. Then if a game doesn't work they think the game is just broken when it really needs a patch or something.

Thats not JUST little kids, adult people with no real interest i pc terms have the exact same symptoms, it is not the user´s fault,- but bad designing of the userinterface. I hate wow personly, but its so easy! Login, select server -> play!
SpykeZ wrote: | Then if a game doesn't work they think the game is just broken when it really needs a patch or something. |
Thats the exact problem, games DONT need patching, if a game needs a patch, the game is not finished. Simple as that. Any company that releases a patch, should publicly apologise to the people who bought an unfinished product. If your newly bought house dont have the roof, are you just gona move in, and wait for them to finish it/IF they finish it?
The companys know this... and they know it well! There is a huge amount of demand for interactive entertainment,- How many are gonna upgrade once ie. Crysis comes out? We want the entertainment and we are willing to pay for it! You pay per month for playing Wow, but patches are distrubed by .... TORRENTS! People dont care... If that aint rape, then I dont know what is.
