Im considering to get access to usenet and was wondering how much would a good provider cost, how to choose a good provider and are there "ripoff" sites/providers about? Im living inside EU.
If the forum rules dont admit you to post links to providers dont do so, i dont want this post to be locked/swept under the rug..
But if it is ok then recommend away.

Giganews is the best provider. It is a tiny bit more expensive than other providers, but is is DEFINITIVELY worth it.

I use usenetserver.com . They're great for my needs, I just buy the 3$ for 3days package when there's a new big release so I can get it fast.

I get 3MB/s download speeds, and they have 101 days retention. And they're very cheap considering their service is pretty good.

Also, all of their connection plans include secure 256bit SSL access for free.

Depends on your internet bandwidth.
I for example, can get anything I want from bittorent on my maximum speed, therefore I don't need usenet.

Also depends on what you download. If you download a lot of movies, usenet is a must - and I', not talking about divx crap.

Usenetserver offers 20 days less retention for 10$ less a month...

Not sure about bandwidth however, but I get 1-3MB/s, normally about 2500kb/s

It's not only about retention. It's about quality of retention as well. How many files are damaged, repairable, and so forth.

ill always use 2nd best to save my money. In my eyes its not worth using money to obain warez, even tho you use it to get access to a high quality server.

although you have to admit, the quality on others has gone up considerably in the last couple of years. Giganews have always had their shit together, now the others are starting to as well.

I'd still trust a big company like Giganews to protect customer data better though Smile

Uh... divx vs. dvdrips... that's no option at all. Crap vs. Great quality. Alright, I can understand some people don't have the patience to download 5 gigs for a movie or watch their movies at a shitty 17" screen, but divx ain't "cool" when it comes to movies.

My plasma only does 480p though. Think for action movies and blockbusters having the big res and 5.1 is more important.

the divx chip on my standalone is kinda cheap ... almost like it adds a grid pattern to the picture.

however, for shitty movies that you never plan on watching more than once, it is fine Smile
