Ubuntu is not over rated !! :O!! But you are right, there is no universal "best distro".. there are simply better distros for better situations. Personally I think ubuntu is best for desktops, but I haven't used Mepis, so there we go! lol
kalato, you should be able to install any distro either over a network or from a USB stick if your cd drive isn't working!
