At that price, we'll get a card that will beat the current king, Nvidia's GeForce 8800GTX in pretty much every synthetic benchmark and game, and will pressure Nvidia to bring down the price for its top dog(g) card. The drivers are still in the works but AMD will have WHQL Vista and XP drivers at launch.

Interesting but there seems to be some doubt to those results based on info on other sites, I'll wait for more information and other tests/benchmarks before judging the card.

Wow, I didn't expect such disappointing benchmarks from the R600! That sucks!
I was hoping for a low-power 8800 equivalent, but this should spur ATI forward to revise its next round of cards. This round looks dead.
I have an x1950 pro and for 160 bucks it kicks ass! I would buy an 8800xt if the price falls below 300. Only competition can make that happen, so get off your ass ATI!
They have had some problems with the r600 chipset since last year, but I didn't think it was performance related.

ATI said in front of 150+ journalists that R600XT won't be able to compete with Geforce 8800 GTX. The dream is dead and Radeon HD 2900 XT won't be able to catch up with a six month old Geforce 8800 GTX.
ATI said that R600XT, Radeon HD 2900XT is about the performance of 8800 GTS. Radeon HD 2900 XTX won't be launched at mid may and will be delayed to Q3 2007. We already wrote about this here.
The dream that AMD can do something and return as the high end market leader s gone. R600 rails against G80. Congratulations on Nvidia.

This couldn't be true, for a simple reason:
I always make the worst hardware choices, and I went with an 8800GTX.

French site, whose comments I'll roughly translate.
Thanks to the Multimedia 2.0 internet, everyone can get his 15 minutes of glory. Even the most stupids. Today, it's gameplanet's autor's turn, who put side to side shitty screenshot from halo 2, taken from his grandmother's 36cm cathodic TV, and screenshots from the shacky-cam-low-res-internal-pré-alpha-leaked-footage of Halo 3 :
[bunch of shitty screenshots]
Those few pictures have got a point : they let us realise, withouth any shade of doubt, that there is no point in filming an HD game with you phone's camera.
... and that halo 3 might disapoint a lot of people, let's not lie either.
comments on the screenshots :
This texture is blurry : unbearable.
This shadowis not lined up properly : photoshoped ?
Isn't it obvious ?
An hole is an hole. Dick have no eyes.

From a nvidia fanboy
If I see 1 more comparision useing Doom as Nvidia's we fucking beat everything all the time now and forever I'll scream
Doom is old & tired and always runs better on Nvidia cards anyway everybody knows this
Lets just wait and see. The only thing I want is a cheaper 8800GTX

Well according to ATI it wont beat the GTX meaning the prices will stay the same at least half a year... Thanks ATI!

I have an xbox and never bothered to play Halo 2 after being seriously disappointed in Halo, playing an FPS with a gamepad blows bigtime.
And now that I can finally play it the way it was meant to be, I'm not interested anymore.
It came out 2,5 years ago on the xbox, there are far better games by now.

1st Review??
86%
Pros:
- Fantastic integration of Games for Windows – LIVE system
- Easiest multiplayer system of any PC title to date
- Tray and Play is revolutionary and simple
- Powerful editor included for free
- VOIP system is as simple as it is on the 360
- Achievements!
- Dedicated servers already in place, as well as the ability to host your own
- Keyboard/Mouse and 360 controller support
- Low system requirements
Cons:
- Mixed bag of high resolution and low resolution textures with no DX10 support
- Is activation as finicky as Windows Activation? Will I need to re-do it after changing hardware?
- Vista only means lower adoption rate
- Pay-to-Play multiplayer only - no LAN, no Local, No Internet
- Full price for a 2.5 year old title

Well, for *some* people it has the opposite effect. What's the point in upgrading to Vista just to play a piece of shit game that looks like crap?

Not long enough to make a good DX10 game. Not long enough to make a good DX9 game too
