I have a MAJOR problem on my hands here!

I recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate. I have a 160GB IDE 7200rpm drive that i use for Windows + installations.. and two 400GB Western Digitial SATA2 Drives for storage..

After installing Vista, the contents of the two SATA drivers were completely fucked up. All my games\movies (.rars) showed up as corrupt when i tried to unpack them etc..

So i deleted everything of my drives.. a total of 700GB of share was fucked!
Then i downloaded 70GB of ScT, movies\games etc.. and again.. everything corrupted somehow. Some things I manage to unpack, but during installations says a file is missing\corrupt\invalid whatever..

Please help me out here.. desperate!

The data on your harddisk doesn't get corrupted just being read from vista. Probably motherboard/sata drivers aren't good, try finding new drivers for your motherboard.

If you have a motherboard with a nvidia nforce chipset then do not use the crappy nforce drivers 15.00, rollback to the drivers that came embedded with vista, they are slow but don't corrupt sata/raid arrays drives, have XP in dual boot to recover your files if vista drivers are faulty, etc... Never delete your files.

I have now Installed Windows XP. It seems that the problem is definetly, at least partially, due to Vista. As it seems the files are now intact. There are however, still a few corrupt files. WinRAR fails to extract some of the games and reports a corruption error..

But now that ive come one step further, how on earth do I get Vista to read my files properly?

Cheers and thanks!

Try installing/removing drivers for the SATA controller and/or the motherboard.

Rolling Eyes No, you face the fact that because your PCs suck and Vista runs like crap doesn't mean it sucks.

I don't see why some people feel the need to grapple with that bug ridden piece of shit this early. Whats the rush?

What Motherboard do you have? The New 680i Boards have a problem with SATA drivers and if you have one of them you need to get a fix from the manufacture's website.
If my memory is correct, the problem they had made SATA drives corrupt.

That's the thing, for you it sucks for shit .. but for me, there are no sudden black screens and no uber performance issues in games. For some people, Vista runs extremely well.

it all depends what hardware/software your're trying to use on vista....
for my setup (x2 4200@2.5, 1gb ddr2 dc, nv430, nv gf7300gt @500/475, sata2 200gb, ide 250gb) with latest drivers, vista works beautifully and with latest 158 forceware i'm getting within 2% of my xpmce score for 3dmark 03/06. i dont notice any real performance issues now and have only used xp (on dual boot) for some of my pro audio apps that dont like vista. i did consider xpmce as my prime os but have realised that i use vista 99% of time now and only use xp for making music. a few games dont like vista but about 9/10 run just fine.

i suppose its a bit of luck with your hardware but mainly down to general os skills. vista is a far more stable, useful os than xp was on release (i have a real dejavu about this, sure i felt the same when xp came out - i loved it, every man and his dog said '98 is so much better.... blah blah blah')

update - changed gfx card to nv gf8600gt @ 650/900 - everything running very well still
