Got some files on my old comp i want to move over, my old hardrive is IDE and only got SATA in the new one. Is there a simple way of transfering files (its aroound 100gb)?
Dont wanna buy an external harddrive or anything like that. Can i just plug my internet cable from one comp to other and transfer somehow?
why not just plug the ide drive into the ide socket on the motherboard, most motherboards today have aleast one spare ide socket along with the sata sockets.
You can't transfer data via your internet cable(yeah you can but you need a multiport router for that), you can however transfer data over LAN, so if both these computers have a network card you can set up a domain, have one pc connect to your other PC and just pump over the data as if the drive were connected to your new comp. You'll need some knowledge on domains and setting up LAN ip's and shit though. Or you could simply get this nifty piece of equipment,
that USB cable they talk about, then you won't have to configure anything(assuming ofcourse both your pc's have USB ports). But seeing as you will only need to do it once, maybe its best to google on how to set up a small domain or connection between two pc's running windows xp or whatever OS you'r running.
