The makers of Xbox Live are sharing their expertise.

April 16, 2007 - Today Microsoft and Showtime announced a partnership to develop a new broadband gaming service for PCs. Microsoft will be providing software solutions and consulting services for the game download business, On Broadband Networks, which is a joint venture between Showtime and game developer/publisher Broadband Libraries (makers of two Curious George edutainment titles).

"Microsoft has been instrumental in helping us execute on the vision we had for transforming the way games are distributed," said Peter von Schlossberg, executive VP and general manager, On Broadband Networks. "We've been able to design and build the service in a fraction of the time and cost of other similar ventures, largely because of Microsoft's commitment to driving this effort forward."

On Broadband will provide an application which users can download to their PCs and use to access a wide variety of games -- from digital counterparts of the latest releases to older titles that have lost shelf space to niche titles that might not have mass-market appeal. The service will provide both offline and online play.

Microsoft has much experience with game download services, as its own Xbox Live program has been an enormous success.

There are less PC games worth buying than there are ways to distribute them. Maybe they should 1st focus on creating a game that would be worth buying.

microsoft is just trying to do what it did for the x-box & total dominate the internet gaming market & have an iron grip on what goes on in the gaming world. If I wanted that kind of bullshit I would of bought a x-box 360 for that purpose. I swear microsoft is trying to turn the pc into a freaking consol were we have limited freedom on what we can do, watch, play, download...at a price as well.
