VUG would be idiots if they held HL2 for six months. HL2 is their biggest title. They would make tons of money. Plus if they would hold it for 6 months a LOT of people would be pissed (me included).

It doesnt say anywhere that they will hold it for 6 months, it simply states the rules of the contract once the release candidate is sent, this entire press statement is retarded and changes NOTHING.
VUG will not delay it simply because they cant afford to, theres nothing else to it.

From gamespot: The statement's implication is that VUG, angry with Valve's "public statements," could sit on Half-Life 2 for up to six months.
From shacknews: "as they've found out that Vivendi Universal Games can hold on to Half-Life 2 for six months after receiving a gold candidate from Valve."

So what? Do you seriously think they are going to hold onto this for six months and miss out on the holiday season on purpose? That wouldnt make any sense, the whole reason this shit started is over money, so why would they delay this and LOSE MONEY??
They are simply stating what VUG could theoretically do under their agreement, its a simple business agreement as to how the game is going to be distributed that was created YEARS ago, it makes no difference whatsoever.
Man these news sites love to blow this stuff out of proportion, and I can clearly see that it works, they are feeding this fire until the very end.

DID I EVER FUCKING SAY THAT I THOUGHT THEY WERE!?!!? All I said was that they would be fucking idiots if they did and lose a ton of money. I just read your post wrong. I thought you said that they it didn't say anywhere that they could hold it for 6 months.

Problem is, that releasing HL2 now or early next year won't really affect sales. All those fan boys who want it will buy it now, tomorrow or next millenia.
Only thing that could drop the sales is if Half-life 3 came out before it...

The holiday season always increases sales, regardless of the game.
Granted the increase probably wouldnt be as large for such a high profile title, but it would make a difference.

not true, i dont believe anyone new will purchase this game because they want to. every1 who is gonna buy it has planned on buying it for a while. also selling when other games do particuarly well might hinder the sales, especially with kids buying games around that time i.e harry potter shit. |

Im not a valve fanboy, and i really wanna play hl2, but serously after a continuous year of this bullshit regarding gabe being fat and the ban of our existance is getting tiresome. for a start css isnt supposed to be a whole new game. and its nothin like ur scenario. also why change the gameplay? its the perfect balance, easy to pick up and play but hard to masster. cod or anythin else really is just easy to learn easy to master, sometimes its just luck.

They can't because they will lose too much money if they delay it. It would be the final straw for many people and I doubt that is something VUG or Valve want so they won't delay it.
