well i have already stopped smoking since yesterday. it means probably nothing for others but im damn proud of myself. i was a chain smoker: 2x marlboro red/day AND during weekend 3 packs when i drink during the night outs.

im currently using 2 patches of TTS 30 (i suppose this means 30mg) it is the highest dosis available in Belgium (prescription needed)

i have to say that it works damn good. i still like to smoke cigarettes but i can refuse them. though im scared because i wont get off the nicotine addiction this way.

others with same experiences?

many thanks!

I was a regular smoker until about 5 years ago, although I actually didn't stop occasionally smoking (mostly while drinking) until this year -- 3 months without a cigarette now and I don't get the craving for one when I drink.

It's tough man, nicotine is fucking addictive. I actually never tried anything like a patch or nicotine gum. My stepdad was a fucking chain smoker, he found that Zyban was the only thing that worked for him....

I quit cold turkey three weeks ago!

Marlboro Reds 1.5-3 packs a day depending on how early i woke up and how late i was awake. Also, drinking really increased the amount os smoking - pretty much was smoking at any given time. It sucks, still crave'em but it's not so bad at this point.

Who is in control? You or your brain! Razz It's all about control over yourself. Weak minds fall to the dark side. While the strong are Jedi fighters on the good side! YEhA!! Smoking ftl! (I still do it while drunk and shit, but hey! Let the jedi have some fun huh? )

Squirrely: Now come on y'all. We can't waste time arguing. There could still be survivors out there. We need to hunt them down, and kill them.
Beary: How about we kill them, and then rape their bodies so we can use their blood as lubricant.

I didnt use any patches or anything, just willpower.. i found it helped to read up on others experiences about giving up. theres a govt website here dedicated to giving up.

I'm sure you have a similar one.. good luck Smile

i do not share your point of view. nicotine is not an addiction of the mind. my body really demands nicotine at the moment. i really hope i am able to reduce the amount of nicotine in those patches the following weeks. then i will be confident that i have quit smoking Smile

@all: many thanks for the support. i am just back in my flat. i haven't smoked a cigarette while enjoying some mojito's with my friends this evening. i really feel i will succeed this time Smile

You'll regret when you get a cronical obstructive lung disease. Cant walk more than 5 meters before you have to stop and breathe, and just putting on your shoes makes you tired.
I'm so glad i don't smoke and never will Smile

Good luck to you quitters, make momma proud!

Reasons for packing in smoking:

1/You will feel better within a few weeks (no more coughing your guts up every morning)

2/You will have a bit more cash - so treat yourself to something Smile

3/You will no longer be a social outcast

4/You will not stink of fags anymore

5/Your teeth will look better

6/Your house will smell better

7/loads more reason - add if you wanna Smile

Reasons for not packing in smoking:

NONE!

Its simple - hope you are carrying on mate.. dont give up trying

Not having a cigarette wont kill you, but having one might Sad

Yeah, agree. Very few people do that in Norway. And we also got a smoking law. You cannot smoke inside at work or at any bar. So
Gets more and more popular Very Happy

nice work man, i have been battleing those smelly sticks for a couple years now. I quit cold turkey for 9 months, not a puff. Then i was an idiot and said, oh i guess i can have one at the bar, in a few weeks i was a 1/2 pack smoker again. Im trying to quit again right now, but i just cant do cold turkey. I have cut back to maximum 3 smokes a day. Non at work, its counter productive anyways. Just one on the way to work, one on the way home.

Again good work, keep strong, cigs are evil.

I dont think most people shower every day, that seems alot to me. Every other day (3-4 times per week maybe) seems more reasonable, doesnt it? Am i wrong?

Would be cool to get some actual statistics on this Smile

You should make a poll in the void.

I personally shower 2 times a day and know many others that do. Who wants to have stinky sex. lol (if they were getting some)

I smoked tobbaco and cigs for nearly 10 years striaght (mothers influence). Then stopped properly about two years ago.

I feel so much better. I used to get chest infections every year and then became allergic to penicillin, guess I was OD'ing on the stuff and was rushed into hospital with anaphalaxsis.

Heart disease is a big problem with smoking, especially if your slightly overweight etc:

I did buy some baccy about a week ago and rolled one. God it tasted like shit, so threw the rest in the bin.

It seems ok when your in your 20's and early 30's, but trust me when your nearing 40 it really hurts. Pleased I stopped when I did. Hope I can encourage anyone else to quit.

People don't often know but pancreatic cancer is also a smokers cancer. It happens in the later years I think.

My Grandmother died of it at 83. Don't quote me on the age. And she thought she was safe because she didn't have lung cancer. Sad

pancreatic cancer sucks, and yes, you're right Sad

Quote:
Patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer typically have a poor prognosis partly because the cancer usually causes no symptoms early on, leading to metastatic disease at time of diagnosis. Median survival from diagnosis is around 3 to 6 months; 5-year survival is much less than 5%[7] With 32,180 new diagnoses in the United States every year, and 31,800 deaths, mortality approaches 99%, giving pancreatic cancer the #1 fatality rate of all cancers and the #4 cancer killer in the United States amongst both men and women.

Cigarette smoking is considered to be the most significant and avoidable risk factor for pancreatic cancer

Despite the especially lethal nature of pancreatic cancer, the research spending per pancreatic cancer patient is only $1145, the lowest of any leading cancer.

well...I've been a smoker for years. I don't smoke packs a day but 7-10 cigarettes is usual for me.

I have talked to several people who have quit smoking 20-30 years ago...I mean they know what they are talking about...and they said unanimously that you can get rid of the physical addiction but mentaly you will always be addicted to nicotine.

And now I ask you pepole, who have quit smoking...do you avoid pubs, bars and nightclubs which are filled with cigarette smoke or say to get lost to a smoker next to you or do you actually secretly enjoy the smell of cigarettes and if someone asks you if he may smoke you'll gladly allow him? Wink

pubs, bars, and nightclubs here are not filled with cigarette smoke, in fact, no place indoors is Wink
