faulty memory? run a memcheck http://www.memtest86.com/ and let it run for a while

or maybe xp is getting tired, and it's time to let it go to sleep. bust a cap in it and reinstall

Yeah try memtest, if nothing seems faulty with the memory then try the command "sfc /scannow" to check the integrity of windows system files (require your xp version disc).

Why does all pc-advice involve a reformat. Before you reformat you could try some non-destructive ways to solve the problem.

1) Before the crash try shutting down non-system programs you may have running that may be causing the program. If you manage to trace the problem program by elimination see if reinstalling that program solves the prob.

2) dwwin.exe is the error reporting tool and sometimes it behaves like a tool Very Happy and reports non-existent errors and tries to call home. Try disabling it- My Computer - properties - advanced - error reporting. I have it disabled and critical error notification enabled, not that I understand any of that stack dump stuff but nice to know when your computer takes a crap on you.

3) Use a tool Razz called RegistryBooster to scan the registry for errors. The scan is free but fixing the errors involves buying the program.

That's all i can think of at the moment.

swingman is right don't format the pc so quickly.

Not all memory "wirreten error" are problem of bad memory .

try to remeber what wad the last program installed/update/upgrade you did,
try to pause antiviruse protection (what antiviruse you are using anyway?)

did you tried to install any new hardware?
try system restore to the point before it start to crash

good luck
