faulty memory? run a memcheck http://www.memtest86.com/ and let it run for a while
or maybe xp is getting tired, and it's time to let it go to sleep. bust a cap in it and reinstall

LOL, if you can assess your memory works properly just reinstall windows...and use the march edition by ETHO...

Yeah try memtest, if nothing seems faulty with the memory then try the command "sfc /scannow" to check the integrity of windows system files (require your xp version disc).

check the dr watson log it should point you in the right direction.
if your unsure im sure there tuts out there to help you.
it could be memory but can easily be windows or a certain app causing this also.

swingman is right don't format the pc so quickly.
Not all memory "wirreten error" are problem of bad memory .
try to remeber what wad the last program installed/update/upgrade you did,
try to pause antiviruse protection (what antiviruse you are using anyway?)
did you tried to install any new hardware?
try system restore to the point before it start to crash
