According to the wikipedia entry it will use the same engine as rockstars next-gen table tennis game: Rockstar Games presents Table Tennis, the technology is called "RAGE"

Looks nice indoors, but they must have rewritten it substantially to work outdoors for sure.

For a sandbox game it's damn good. That is, if they maintain the same standard of graphics in GTA4.

I guess they're using some middleware as they always did. Those middeware engines are usually very complete solutions allowing both outdoor and indoor stuff. They used renderware for gta 3 to san andreas, and renderware was used in so many other console games as well, from burnout series to tony hawk series. Very diverse as you see. So you shouldn't judge how the game might look just by the engine, especially on consoles. Those middleware engines are a lot more flexible than the engines we're used on PC like source and unreal engine, their is much less a "engine-specific" look. So be ready for anything Very Happy

from what I heard, they will be using the engine they built for Table Tennis for the next GTA, like the other guy said above.

GTA IV is scheduled for release on the PC. I'm sure. It is guaranteed, the game is released on PC, it will be 5 - 6 Gigabytes in size. GTA:SA was also released first to the PS2, and not for the PC. After being released to the PS2, it was then released for XBOX and PC.

These are like add-ons for the normal gta titles, who cares, just easy money milking games.

Uhh, no. LCS and VCS are completely different games. And they're only available for PSP and PS2 Rolling Eyes

Yes, I said ---> LIKE <--- add-ons. What I meant was that it's actually the same deal all over, different city and story (worse than the core games) The game engines are the same,at least for the PS2 game.

Anyway, you catch my drift, we don't want that mediocre crap ported, we want the real deal.

Heh.. Sorry for the mixup. Thought you were speaking "stoner" english. "You know I'm like totally sorry about that, dude" Wink But yeah, you're right about the ported crap. Although Rockstar is not one of the devs I'm worried about. They usually make solid games IMO.

I would like to see a persistent city, instead of turning around and having random shit show up. I realize that one of the main obstacles to this is the limited resources of the console.

Even Mafia had better retention when it was released many years ago.
