i just installed the nvidia 7900gt & games & movies are dark unless i brighten the desktop display !! so where is the seperate settings for games & desktop you mentioned?? i have put the video settings to max but to little effect as games & movies still play dark unless i brighten the actual desktop display ??

When I made that comment I was referring to actual 3D graphics settings, not gamma/brightness. What kind of monitor are you playing on, LCD or CRT? If it's CRT I reckon it's on it's last legs if your having to tinker with gamma (etc).
There might be a separate application that will manage that kind of thing for you but why don't you just increase the gamma through your control panel and leave it at that? Don't forget many games offer you control over gamma (etc) too.

19" widescreen Lcd monitor 1400x900 ,the last Nvidia i had was 6600GT but honestly ATI is the best by a mile & i'm very sorry i bought this 7900gt card , ATI is a dream to work with & not only games are super amazing on it but desktop image quality is far better than Nvidia + the settings are automatically adjusted by the ATI catalyst software i dont have to do anything.Nvidia as i said before is a step back in technology & image quality compared to ATI.after this experience i 'm not even gonna keep my x1800xl in fact i 'm going for the x1900 turbo version or the x1950 . ATI for life .
believe it or not my old x1800xl performed better than the Nvidia 7900gt when playing F.E.A.R !!! & both cards are 256mb memory.

those programs that you mentioned are useless, because it wont let two different player configure buttons, meaning only one can play at a time.

Without wanting to go into an OT flame-war I must say you sound like a fanboy with limited knowledge and also too much money. If you're going to upgrade do it properly.
'ATI is best by a mile' - Ummm both are decent lol which is why they're constantly slugging it out..
Anyway good game, glad to hear bout the gamepad support added to menus as it made an otherwise decent game look like a lazy port from console.

not at all mate according to web reviews the 7900gt is supposed to be the answer to the X1800XT not my card X1800XL which was the answer to the 7800gt so buying the 7900gt is considered a proper upgrade for me !! i used to be Nvidia user myself but since trying ATI i kinda of regret wasting my time gaming using Nvidia cards & not having the courage to try ATI,the image quality on ATI cards is far more superior than Nvidia ones.lets not go far & just compare next gen consoles the PS3 game image quality (Nvidia chip) to the xbox360 image quality (ATI chip) & tell us which console preduces much more beautiful vived colors ?. xbox360 ofcourse !
btw have you seen the new C&C game on ATI card ?? you will never use Nvidia again if you did.personally i cant wait for ATI R600 DX10 cards the X2800XL or XT.
Regards

Honestly.
ATI at one point in the past might have had higher image quality (I remember a period where this was a big talking point) but it's a myth that it still exists today! I have ATI and NVIDIA and there's no tangible difference in image quality whatsoever (and I seriously hate both companies, I'm no fanboy).
In so far as your desktop looking better and all that terrible nonsense I've used ATI as my main card ever since the GF4ti went out of business (because it was cheaper and didn't have all the issues that NVIDIA struggled with at the time). However I've never ever in all my life had to have different gamma settings and so forth for my desktop and games, and I've never ever in all my life ever experienced a tangible difference between desktop and game image quality. To each his own (and whatever your smoking is clearly working) but even if the ATI software lets you control such needless settings it's not a software application I want to use. EVER AGAIN. It's INCREDIBLY slow, bulky and painful. The NVIDIA software on the otherhand is extremely pleasant to use, look at and fast (and as I said allows for individual - automatic - game settings, just not gamma which is considered universal under video).
I'm not saying one is better than the other (although NVIDIA software is a real pleasant change of air after stumbling around with ATI) - but don't propagate falsehoods that ATI is better image quality and things like that.

Quote: | ok forget about the desktop quality forget about how games look amazing on ati cards or even movies |
I will, as I said there is no difference in image quality.
Quote: | just view your digital camera pics with ati & nvidia then judge quality, man its clear that ATI has rich colors miles better than Nvidia bleached out colors |
As a graphics designer I see no tangible difference between the two and I use a variety of different setups right back to the GF2. The biggest difference maker in terms of image quality is the monitor you use (not to mention your eyesight, lighting conditions and so forth).
Quote: | also regarding the contrast & brightness settings i have already told you about ATI has seperate settings for games & desktop while nvidia has 1 setting for both so if you want to lower the contrast & brightness for the desktop then your games will look dark . |
And I've told you that the only time that was ever an issue (in all my LIFE) was with a CRT monitor that was on it's last legs. You're doing something wrong, you shouldn't have to have separate settings.
Quote: | clearly ATI has better software |
As someone that has had to suffer the ATI software I genuinely take great offence to that comment.
Quote: | i will leave people to make their own minds about which is best |
Exactly. First thing you should do before that is stop spreading falsehoods such as ATI has better software or image quality. It's not even a subjective issue with room for difference of opinon, it's an outright lie by an ATI fanboy.

Just get the razor 1911 1.1 release, I read the nfo and it says you don't need to patch. Obviously only the main executable was changed.
