YES you do... You get a Mission and you go from A to B within Fencing...
So far Im still trying to figure out WTF they meant with FREEDOM inside the Zone...
The game is 100% the opposite of Oblivion which Streams the game along...
Stalker loads in Levels and your NOT able to run free lee, only within a certain path and not past a fence on the obrders of that Map or you get Radiated maximum and die...
|
No you don't. You can move freely about the zone. You don't have to take missions and you don't have to go from point A to point B. Missions help the game along, but you can choose not to do them.
It only loads another part of the map, but it's not levels. it's map sections. you can load up the second area then head back to the first. Freedom still remains.
As to being radiated to the max, well the area is a fallout zone and you don't exactly have anything other than your stalker clothes ie you aren't protected from radiation.
So yes, you move from A to B within missions, but that's normal. You still have to take a mission to start that sort of linearity.

Skidrow you really need to try it yourself, as you can see the opinions are divided. Some say it completly sucks, and some say it toally owns (like me). If you were all hyped up, you gonna be disapointed, if you didnt then you might be surprised as how fun the game can get. So far all the negative things are minor to me, yeah it does load up areas, yeah you do use sausages as healing potions, but the fun is there, just try it.

Dude calm down, its not like you bought the game. It is just a game, you seem so pissed about it, you do not have to play it you know, no one makes you. Go play oblivion then where you can move freeleeee and have a loading every other second. I dont know what you whining about, the levels are pretty big, and the loading isnt that long to destroy the game, there is a lot of places to explore. Again if you dont like it, nobody is making you play it.

Oblivion had loading times everytime you entered a dungeon, town and interior. Not to mention you can still 'get stuck' for a brief period of time when exploring the outside because the game is loading.

I am calm and yes I do hate it, only because it was total Hype but no go...
I still have the Videos of when they said "you can move freelee around the entire Map...
If you have a Fence around a Level and only 3 exits, it really doesnt feel Open to the entire environment as stated...
Doesnt anyone remember the Beta long ago where you could run a huge open environment though mountains/hills and there was a few buildings ???
This is what I thought the game was about...
And Oblivion can blow me...

Oh i see, so you were cought up in the hype, yeah then i guess it is a big disapointment. I was hyped about it about 2 years ago, and then i gave up, and im glad i did because now im immersed into the game and cant stop. Cant wait till this class ends and i can play some more. I just got into dark valey and there are freaking zombies that use guns. Before i finished the underground lab level, man it was scary, all those anamolies and flying boxes and what not, great atmosphere.
My performance is great, sometimes it would lag for a second but then it goes away. The first loading is pretty long, but then the others are fast. Didnt have a single crush yet.

How long have you played ??? I thought with the Fences it was a Tutorial... LOL...
Ive been playing for around 4 to 6 hours...
There is only a few things that made me laugh ingame... Like the anomalies, watching Stalkers/Animals go into them...LOL... That was funny...
Maybe my opinion might change on the game after 20 hours or so, but doubt it...
I do love the broken down feel to the Buildings and such, but they could of put 4 Levels together at least to make it feel bigger... ...Levels themselves were pretty darn good ...
Owell gonna play a bit more to get some more feel to the game...

NecroViolator,
Every single game, even Oblivion, has fences. No game has infinite free roam, therefor you can't attack one game but not another.
Oblivion only streams the outside and only when you're actually moving. Warping around the map results in a load similar to the initial one. Going into towns and dungeons requires loading.
Now, as to free roaming. Stalker doesn't force you to leave the introduction, stick to the path till you get to the road, force you to turn left and force you to turn off the road to your objective by using tacking road blocks.
You can freely move in any direction you want (within the fences, which is logical due to the radiation) and go where you want and do what you want. That is free roaming.
Heck, even FarCry, which was freeroaming (between say....Doom and Stalker)....had it's fences. Freakin' helos that shoot the shit out of you if you stray too far. Stalker has radiation.
Seriously, I don't know what you're getting worked up about. You're free to move around the zone, the zone has fenced off sections, but you can freely move to and from the sections. It's not like a Medal of Honour game, here.
As to shooting through bushes, I do it all the time. Hide in bushes from the animals and shoot them while hiding.

Well did you get to that underground lab yet? It is a freaking good level, scary and dark. They did an incredible job with lightning. Now as i said im in that dark valey and have to get into another lab, cant wait, its probably even better than the previous one.

Nahhh, my mistake was I was living up to the Hype of a FreeRoaming game, sorta like TDU for example, where you can drive everywhere and see the buildings and go over mountains and such...
This was a huge mistake to believe you started like in the middle of the Map/Level and went anywhere you wanted... To much Hype and I sank my teeth into it...
Damn need false teeth now... ...
Sorry folks, Im just Screwed hard by the Hype... Owell, next time I will take the Hype with a pinch of salt... ...

How does the damage model in this game work? Do head shots kill instantly? Or is the combat based entirely on hit points?

Depends on the armour of the character/monster, headshots in general only require one or two bullets though while shots to the arms and legs may require several magasines early on using cheap low damage weapons without special ammo.
(I'd image a SPAS-12 combat shotgun or AK-47 assault rifle changes that somewhat)

I agree with you NecroViolator. When i first saw those fences i was like "wtf"? I thought this game was about freedom. Why even show the whole map if you only will be abel to acces like 60% of it...? Very lame imo. I was also expecting something like oblivion, hype or no hype, freedom and size have been the two lead words as long as i can remember.
Im only in the third sector atm, but the others dont look mutch bigger, maybe some but still, there is a WAST aera you wont be abel to see. If they was going to to do it like that couldent thet at least have made more natural borders. Not miles of barbwire that are 1,5m high
This said, the game is still pretty fun.
