I found this on a NG, i dont have a Hd attached to my PS2, but can someone tell me what it is? some sort of pre-loader for the game? i have no experience with HD's and the PS2
Game: HD Loader 0.8b, God of War 2-patched
Platform: Sony PlayStation 2
Region: NTSC, but should work on PAL also
Filename: abtt-hdl08bgow2.rar
Format: .bin/.cue (cd)
Files: 20x20MB
PAR2: 10%
SFV: Yes
Source: GoW2 patch by Crazyc, HDL .elf packed by coolwulf (Thanks guys!)
Working: Yes (duh! you think we'd post broken stuff?)
Repost: HAHAHAHA... no.
Note: "Why is it so big?" I hear you ask? One reason. Tiny cd images load
inconsistently on many PS2 consoles, or not at all on some. I made
this image as KNOWN WORKING for myself and my friends. If you don't
like how I did it, fuck off and spend the time and effort of making
your own damn disc. Kthx.

here's a tutorial i pulled from here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/482502
i haven't tried it yet but apparently it works
END RESULT IS A 3.97 GIG ISO
WHAT YOU NEED
toxic dual layer patch (maybe not, but i used it)
gnie's expert 2 and GOW 2 plugin
apache 2 or 3 (I can up this later)
pss downsampler (you might need visual basic also)
cd dvdgen 2.0 (I can up this later)
iml2iso (I can up this later)
zerofile.dll (quick google search away)
I decided to up all of these tools, which can be found here http://rapidshare.com/files/21432317/GOW_tools.rar xpert2 can be found in the ROGUE rar.
And here we go
This is how I ripped it. I dummied .psw files (widescreen tv files) to suit my needs. If you have a nice tv, you will be doing exactly what I say but doing it to .pss files instead.
1.Stick the zerofile.dll in you windows-system32 file, it will be need later. Path the iso with the toxic patch. Simple as opening the patcher app, selecting the DVD9, and hitting ok.
2.Open up apache, open the iso, extract everything to a folder on your desktop named GOW (trust me, just do it)
3.With that done, go to start-run-cmd. If your comp is like me, you will need to type "cd desktop" without the quotes to get to desktop. After that, type "cd GOW" to get to that folder. Now type "copy /b part1.pak + part2.pak new-part1.pak" no quotes. This will merge the two pak files. This will take a while, leave the comp alone when it is working.
4.Open up expert2, choose the GOW2 plugin. For big file, choose new-part1.so, and GODOFWAR.TOC for the table file. MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE TRUMPENT SOUND OR THINGS WILL GO BAD. Hit extract lba, then when that is done hit extract files.
5.Now open up pssdown. Go through the folder that contains all the extracted .pak data, and select all the .pss files, there are 42. With them all highlighted, drag them into the pssdown box. We will do this three times with the same files.
1.Set the downsample rate at 30%
2.Set the downsample rate at 60%
3.Set the downsample rate at 50%
This is going to take sometime, so take a shot, smoke a cig, do whatever you do best. This will make the .pss files around 800 megs.
6.This is where that zerofile .dll comes in. Now go back to the same folder, and select all .psw files. They are always by its respective pss file. Highlight all 38, right click, then hit the dummy file option.
7.Now open up xpert 2 w/ the GOW2 plugin, same big and table files, and hit rebuild files. You will have a new pak file names new-new-part1.pak. When that is done, hit rebuild lba. See this isnt that bad eh?
8.Go into the GOW folder, and delete the original part1 and part2.pak files, and new-part1.pak file. With those out of the way, rename new-new-part1.pak to PART1.PAK.
9.Open wordpad, press space once, then save as PART2.PAK If the file is being recognized as a txt file, put the file in a folder, go to tools-folder options-view and uncheck the hide extensions on known files box, now you can delete the .txt extension. After you do, retick the box.
10.Delete the GODOFWAR.TOC that you originally extracted with apache, and rename NEW-GODOFWAR.TOC to GODOFWAR.TOC
11.Open up cd dvdgen, choose dvd rom master disk, and put the files in the prog in this order (dont mind the lba crap, i copied and pasted)
0000000281 , \SYSTEM.CNF
0000000282 , \SCUS_974.81
0000001320 , \IOPRP300.IMG
0000001456 , \SIO2MAN.IRX
0000001460 , \SMPD.IRX
0000001486 , \989NOMID.IRX
0000001574 , \DBCMAN.IRX
0000001582 , \DS1O_S1.IRX
0000001587 , \DS2U_D.IRX
0000001593 , \LIBSD.IRX
0000001608 , \MC2_D.IRX
0000001618 , \MC2_S1.IRX
0000001628 , \SIO2D.IRX
0000001634 , \GODOFWAR.TOC
0000001654 , \PART1.PAK
blahblahbl , PART2.PAK
Now hit the volume tab, enter SCUS 97481 for the disk name, playstation for the producer name, and america for the region. With that done, go to file-export iml, name to whatever the hell you want and save to the GOW folder.
12.Open IML2ISO, open the iml you just made, and hit the make iso button. Wait a few minutes, there is your iso! If you did what I said, it will be 3.97 gigs.
13.Burn

Don't think that is GOW2, just a version of hdloader that can load the gow2 image.
You buy an ordinary IDE hdd, the official network adaptor, then either swapmagic or hdadvance.
The hdd connects to the back of the network adaptor and they both fit into the hole at the back of the PS2. Then you boot the ps2 with the HD program you're using and if the disk is new it give you the option to format, if there are games on it, it will bring up a menu where you can select the ISO you want and away you go. The games load super fast.
To get the games onto the HDD you can either connect the drive to the PC directly, or over the network, (Which I've never done).
The version I'm using is hdadvance, which I think doesn't support DVD9, so some games don't work, not sure if the latest versions support this feature because I don't have swapmagic.

freeman2810 your disc seems to be ok, ImgBurn says exactly the same for my disc. I can only guess that it's your laser. My laser is also very bad. I can only boot the game when I have the PS2 standing vertically. Maybe try it again with different DVD+R DL media. Or it is your chip but I'm beginning to think every direct-boot chip can run DVD9. What chip do you have?

i am not quite sure. it`s been a long time.....
i think it`s a messiah chip! And my ps2 stands horizontally and tried to boot about 20 times now! Even when ps2 is not ok, why should the 360 copy not work now???? I haven`t any problems by now with that. Why now????

I am having the same problem at the bridge and with the save point.
Has anybody got the Icarus wings yet? If so, you are past the part I am talking about. What media and what chip did you use?

Game works fine with HDLoader 0.8b, just patch HDL0.8b with CrazyC's GoW2demo patch.
You don't even have to use the GoW2demo patch on some PS2's.
Transfer image to HDD with hdldump (not hdldumb) or WinHIIP and you're off.

Yes I have the exact same problem at the exact same place... I even tried burning another DL+DVD but the problem was still there with the new DVD.
Am I supposed to use the toxic patch to fix this or what does the toxic patch even do?

Try the discs on a friends machine.. if they still don't work; try burning a new disc with another friends burner and see if that works on your machine.. if not, try these on your first friends machine

But you haven't completed the game yet? So it could result in an error further into the game?
Please come back with more info as you progress through the game!
[EDIT] I also got an error in r63, anyone got the same?
