On MSN. I knew he was depressed, he told me earlier. Met him in WoW. Now he said that in 9 hours, he's going to take his own life. What do I do? I don't even know what country he lives in, only his hotmail adress. I don't want him to end his life.

And excuse me for being extremely selfish - but this can get me in a lot of trouble too, can't it? Simply because he told me and I can't do anything to help it.

You can't get in trouble. What country do you live in? There's no samaritan duty of care in most Western law. A duty only arises if there's a close degree of proxmity, someone you barely know online don't count.

And if they were serious about killing themselves I doubt they woulda told you, because it may cause an intervention. Just block them and let them be. If they wanna kill themselves, they should be free to do so.

Of course it's ok to joke. You don't seem to know the guy at all, anything he does is on him alone.

It may seem harsh Praetori, but this really isn't your problem. There is nothing you can do bar talk him out of it or pass him onto some website which may help him get some help.

Yeah. He said nothing could stop him. I practically begged him to talk to his psychologist or his parents. That went on for 15 minutes. Then he was like "<so and so> many pills and alcohol should do the trick if I didn't miscalculate."

I don't know what happened then. I don't know if he just lost credibility, if I became angry at him for telling me all that information while I'm completely helpless, or if I just panicked. But I blocked him and removed him from my msn list.

I don't know his real name, I don't know where he lives, nothing. So, yeah. There is nothing I can do - and I don't want him telling me how he's going to kill himself and stuff. I don't want that guilt.

I once talked a girl out of commiting suicide.. she told me on msn too, but i had her number so i called her..

But why tell someone you know nothing about that you´re commiting suicide? Seems weird atleast..

I was friendly to him. Inside a video game. :S

You're right guys. I'm sorry, I shouldn't take it very seriously. Even if I did, there's nothing I can do. Already tried talking him out of it, but then he just proceeded freaking me out.

Almost all teenagers will mention the desire to kill themself at least once throughout their years.

It's being able to tell who is fantasizing or seeking attention over someone who is truely mentally ill.

However the fact that you do not know him, it is not your resonsibility. If you are unable to obtain the correct details, e.t.c, then it is out of your control.

If you do have the relevant details, then a simple phone call to the police, who will inform you of the correct services to notify is the best you can do.

Suicide is the ultimate act of ignorance and selfishness......

You are always connected to your fellow being, as you are also a human. Only the EGO resides in isolation.......... but that is illusionary

If someone is really going to do it I don't think they would tell anyone what they were going to do. They might even act happy. It is the ones that tell you about it that are asking for help I think.

Sometimes people just get upset too and talk about it but don't really mean it.

Just looking for attention.. If a person plans to commit suicide, they are not going to tell you in advance.

its quite shocking the amount of peole that do say they are gonna commit suicide, majority of it is attention seeking, however its equally shocking the amount of people that assume its a kid or an emo, My mum barely knew someone on msn and the girl said she was gonna kill herself and 2 weeks later my mum received a forwarded letter from authorities in the post thanking her for being so kind in trying to console her but she was still gonna commit suicide etc. and when my mum called the authorities to see if it was true or not it was and the girl had actually killed herself.

I agrre most of it is attention seeking but i dont think it should all be dismissed. however for the person who original posted as someone else said, its may seem harsh but it isn't your problem and realistically there is probably little you can do unfortunately.
