CHIPP / WIIP look the most promising considering they both cost next to nothing, AVR based, Open source. and TCNiSO is developing the WIPP chip so thats even more promising.

Wiinja v2 chip here, works for every PAL Wii released to scene here on mine and a few NTSC that i used the patcher on (which would be the same as what the chips offer at 70% compatability on NTSC > PAL just done via hardware instead of software )and so far all NTSC/PAL Gamecube games i have tried have worked fine.

A friend of mine is installing a Wiinja V2 in my Wii hopefully tomorrow. As long as it boots PAL and NTSC backups I dont care about anything else it does!
May the NFOrce be with you always.

why go for the old V2 when you can get the new delux version for same price or even cheaper?

So does the WiiKey need the On/Off switch thing installed like the CycloWiz does?
EDIT: Also, is there a preferred DVD-R/DVD+R media for best results?

I can't really say that wiikey is better than the other ones out there but it's certainly not lacking any of the important features.. I've got one myself and the installation was easy enough and i like the fact that you can upgrade it with a disc. It has got all the features i need, i've read that sound on some GC games stutters and that will be fixed in the next firmware version for wiikey (this far they have only released different versions of settings disc, no new firmware). If you are not going to be using the GC part of the wii heavily (all GC games i've tested works flawlessly) this is not a big issue..
All the chips are pretty much the same except the earlier ones which can't be upgraded via software and isn't compatible with all drives.
My understanding is that most ppl are getting wiikey or cyclowiiz. The more technical people are building their own chip and using one of the many open source firmwares.

You can use an emulator via Gamecube homebrew method.
There is no official VC hack though that let's you download official VC games and run them.
As for the mod chips, the WiiKey has bad flash protection and doesn't need the on/off switch the cyclowiz does.
But it also uses a different audio fix(?) for GC games and some of them are reported not working, however the WiiKey team says they are in the midst of their first FW update and have stated they have a correction on the way for the audio problem crashing GC games.
Don't listen to any pros/cons about quick solder method, you won't be using that anyways.
If you line the chips up side by side I'd say the WiiKey slightly pulls ahead.

You'd think so on paper, but once you actually get the Wii apart and line the chip up to the points, it's a headache that's not worth the "ease".
Besides, using wires you can remove the chip later should you want to much easier than if it's quicksoldered into place.
Personally, I tried to quicksolder mine first because I figured it would be easier... but the wire method turned out way easier...

Wicked, ok - thanks for the tip.
As for emulation - does the Wii have a N64 emulator then? That runs Perfect Dark / Goldeneye?

Here's a question, do you think politicians are going to kick off because now you're not just pressing a button to stab some dude, you actually have to perform the action.
Does that seem more violent in some ways?
Just thinking, because I noticed Manhunt 2 is coming to the WII.
