|
 |
i think it would be interesting to list all the games that have been 'ported' to 64-bit OS in order to evaluate the current status of 64-bit gaming...
as far as i remember :
# FAR CRY
# UT2004
# UT2-based Shadow Ops : Red Mercury
# BF2 dedicated server
it's probably fastidious for developers to release 64-bit versions within the gold retail version, and all the more because they soon will have to release 2 versions of their games : DX9 and DX10. My guess is that 64-bit could be reserved for the dedicated servers of popular MP games for the next years...

doubt it'll really happen a whole lot, I think it's gunna be more focused on multi threading em

There is a 32-bit and a 64-bit version of Vista already though it's mostly programs that use the 64-bit stuff, not that many games available for it though most 32-bit games are probably fully compatible.
(This will probably change slowly and I'll probably install the 64-bit version once I have upgraded my system and SP1 is available for the OS itself)
EDIT: You probably knew that though and releasing a 64-bit only would remove alot of potential customers for Microsoft since it requires a 64-bit capable processor.

there was a test the compared the two versions of a game..I think it was Far Cry, the only difference was like 5FPS. I dun think the 32/64 bit makes that much a difference, it's more multithreading.

cause the general public assed around and wanted a 32 bit windows... and i have no fucking clue why, if you havent got a 64 bit capable machine by today you arent ready for vista either so why the fuck would anyone wanna run a 32 bit system on 64bit hardware ?, thats what its about, if microshit only had released 64bit vista we would see a whole lot of 64 bit games/apps cause its not like 32bit apps and games WONT work in x64 but the retarded public screamed and whined for a 32bit version WHY?... god damnit this still pisses me off , cause the only thing it did was to slow down the progress towards full 64 bit enviroments
ive lost trust in humanity , people have always been and will always be idiots
in THEORY its twice the amount of calculations at the same time running 64 VS 32
so what's the fuckin prob ?, "nononoooooo lets keep making 32bit shit for people that use 64bit hardware then we can up the hardware requirments instead so we can sell the even faster dual core 64 bit cpu's even tho if we made the game 64bit it would require a much smaller cpu cause of the double calculation rate"
FUCKTARDS!!
hell most games dont even support dual core yet and its been out how long ? nooo they just keep upping the sys req's instead of getting their shit together and do some proper coding and utilize the power we already have today

depends on the game and what it uses the processor for. far cry isnt really heavy on the cpu it just loads the graphics card
take any mmo for an example where you have alot of calculations going all the time, thats where it would shine, and it would make the devs create a whole lot more advanced AI

Yeah some will say those pictures are in low res but try it yourself , downloaded the 600mb 64bit patch and played all on max and I must say WOW . Never seen so much details , they didn`t add that this patch adds those extra textures , new bump mapping textures , new physics , depth of field , PS3.0 effects , dust [it may sound crazy but I never seen I my entire life a game that gives you so realistic dust effect but only if you have a win64 and 64bit processor ] , new water effects [waves , effect of water that stays on the shore] , and much much more .

Farcry is the other way around. The CPU is the limiting factor as opposed to the GPU. Theres been quite a few benchmarks on the web that prove this. Most noticable when you are running the game at extreme resolutions.
