WinBeta's release was a modified install, combining the 32-bit and 64-bit MSDN ISO's onto one DVD.

You just said to keep my XP installation for games lol. I assume that would mean an upgrade to Vista not a fresh installation? I am confused.

Razz I'll make it clear. In any case, don't upgrade! That's a general rule to follow. Now, you have two options; delete XP installation of keep it. If you intend to game, keep it.

Ok so if I dont upgrade and I keep XP then I can't install Vista? That is what I was getting at.

No, the retail version of ultimate includes the x86 and 64bit version, see the note at the bottom of this page

Dude, you can install Vista as a clean install at all times (with or without XP installed).

WinBeta uses a modified installer, period! Why, you ask? Well, I think the command prompt that pops up and the large WinBeta logo kinda gives it away...

Yo spud_work: On the Ultimate Retail DVD, Microsoft DO NOT include both 32-bit and 64-bit versions on one DVD. The only such DVD was one hacked together by WinBeta.

If you want to install 32-bit Vista, you insert the 32-bit DVD in your drive. If you want to install 64-bit Vista, you insert the 64-bit DVD into your drive. Each DVD contains all versions of Vista, from Basic to Ultimate - however, x86 and x64 do NOT co-exist on the same DVD.

Which method did you use to crack Vista?

All seems OK here using PARADOX tool to Activate.

Well Vista runs better than I expected it to but my hard drive seems to access A LOT. Is there any particular reason that might be or can I fix it? Virtual memory maybe?

Couple of reasons spring to mind.

It could be indexing your files, go to control panel / indexing options and check it's status. If you've added your pr0n collection to be indexed it may take extra time to complete due to the vastness of your collection Smile

Windows Defender could be scanning your system, if you don't need it, open Services and disable it.

Hard drive could be autodefragging with Vista's crap defragger. Go to control panel, System and maintenance, Administrative Tools, Defragment your hard drive and uncheck the scheduled task. PerfectDisk 8.0 is a much better defragger to use for Vista.

Thanks for that! I have disabled Windows Defender and I am currently defragging my hard drive right now. Also I have checked the indexing options and it was indexing files which I think is the main cause of the problem with the contant drive accessing. It was on 18,423 files. Does this continue to increase until all files have been indexed then? That could take some time. i dread to think how many files I have lol.

Also I was looking for the fancy flip3D windows but cannot find them. I changed my theme to Aero and apply it and when I go back to check it has reverted back to the Vista Basic theme. I know my pc isnt upto the recommended system requirements but I had all the cool minimize and close windows transition effects and transparent windows. Today they are gone! lol!

I had to uninstall Nero 6 and Daemon tools before it would upgrade from XP to Vista. Not sure if that's because they are incompatible or not tho.

And I have an unknown device in my device manager. No idea what it is and everything seem to be working ok! Vista looks for a driver but fails to find one :/

Other than that its pretty cool so far. I still have yet to try the games whcih I hear is a bit of an issue at the moment. I also like the blue swirling circle thing that I assume replaces the egg timer! lol.
