					|  |
					| A nice little tweak for XP PRO. Microsoft reserve 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes (suspect for updates and interrogating your machine etc..)
 Here's how to get it back:

 Click Start-->Run-->type "gpedit.msc" without the "

 This opens the group policy editor. Then go to:

 Local Computer Policy-->Computer Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->Network-->
 QOS Packet Scheduler-->Limit Reservable Bandwidth

 Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured,
 but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab :

 "By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection,
 but you can use this setting to override the default."

 So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO. This will allow the system
 to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%.
 works on XP Pro, and 2000 other OS not tested.

 Doesn't work on winxp home.

 thx goes to swisstony for this info i tryed it and rebooted dont know if its worked though from what other ppl have said it works but not for torrents?

					| If you deactivate it - it means the same thing as not configured- it will still hold back 20%. So, sounds like you do need to enable it - set to 0. Lets see if this works. Thanks.

 i dont even see the option on windows 2000.
 im not logged into the main admin account though im logged into an admin account i set up as the default user :S

 i dont think the option is there on win2k though as on bandwidth tests im only around 50kb from the theortical limit of a 10mb connection so i dont think qos does shit on win2k in regards to bandwidth reserve

					| I changed mine to 0%. Dont really see a difference - but seems to be faster. Ran some bandiwth tests. Getting 8.50 mbps download. Upload is 362 kbps (capped by cable compan). Trash comcast.
 TuneUp 2007 didnt even modify this setting on own when I ran 'tweak my internet connection'. Makes you wonder if tuneup actually does anything.

					| This doesn't change anything at all.
 The 20% is only reserved if it is actually used for something like Windows Updates. If Windows Updates is not downloading any patches (99% of the time) you can use all of your bandwidth.
