The music is everybit like something I'd expect to hear in an american series like "24", suffice it to say it's not the industrial punk or electronic rock which was in the former games and would've suited their supposed "heir".
Whats with that shifting of the camera every time I get a new objective anyway?, it's quite annoying getting the odd 5 sec "Build this or build that window" it look like something out of a hollywood movie where "hackers" can crack a security system using only the wasdefc keys! - well most of the game has that tacky look about it...
My impressions on the skirmish side are these: my skirmish session on hard lasted 17min before I had 3 mammuth tanks fitted with rail guns and beat the ai using just those 3 tanks
This is not even not even worthy being mentioned in the same sentence as Tiberian Dawn.

I disagree. Its clear that they wanted to give the game a slightly more "movie" like feel, with the change in music and visual camera effects (yes the objective camera is annoying, but I'm sure it will be optional.. I was more worried about why the camera was shaking ).. As for the "tacky" look, I seriously don't see your point.
The game has the nice touches the original had, something that not many RTS's have brought to the table in a long long time.
A REAL STORY.
Interaction, nothing can beat a game with real movies !
Well thought out units.
Well thought out base defences.
Balance! (not 100% clear in the demo, but there was certainly some interesting tactical differences between the two sides, neither of which seemed too OTT).
ION cannon.. cant really lose with one of them in a game.
Sure its different. Different bad? I don't think so. Different better? No probably not! But that's just the point, this is a different game, this is the future (in game and in reality).. I think this game will please the least picky of the old fans and bring in a truck load of new ones, for all the right reasons.
Maybe I'm just being a fanboi though .

Yes I need to clarify what I mean by tacky, obviously opinions cannot be anything but subjective and when I played the campaign mission it reminded me of watching a steven seagal movie of which I sadly had the displeasure watching a few of, it just puts me off somehow , it's probably not just the graphics though but the music and general ui aswell.
I agree that you cannot beat the cutscenes, it wouldn't have been C&C without them and you would have heard me ranting on and on how they really missed the beat if they had opted for a "Generals" way of doing it
Regarding the Ion Cannon, sure it's nice but it hardly makes a game.
I think theres alot of old C&C fans who feels the same way as I do about some of these issues and yes the game is different but it's not really different from "C&C: Generals" and I probably expected a more "C&C: Tiberian Dawn" approach than what they've done here.
The game is certainly more action centric with build times being low and quicker pace than the original game making room for more 'quick games' with emphasis on the tactical aspect than the strategical, some might like it of course, this is just not my kind of game

I must be playing something competely different.
The Command & Conquer 3 demo I downloaded was standard and boring as hell.
Where can I find the game you all seem to be enjoying?

Ditto
But you know something this is torture. Know we have to wait a month before the release. I hope someone will open the .dat files and edit so you can play as nod to. And if we are really lucky maybe the alien race is in the demo to. But i don't doubt that the sp campaign in the game will be awesome.

You both suck.. ..
I agree that this game didn't draw me in even nearly as much as the original.. but then again, I was 11 when I played it. I get the feeling a lot of the missing love is due to being older, mixed with the changes they have made. I don't think its a game destroyer, but I expect to see some more interesting missions.. Overall this is clearly not better than the original, but its far better than anything since (C&C wise). |
It's not really that.. it's just that it's completely plain in every way.
This is like, the most standard RTS I've ever seen, slapped with the good C&C name on the box.
I mean it's not BAD in any particuliar way, it's just the most standard RTS you can get.

Well havent tried the demo yet but community Lion has posted his first impression:
Lion@CnCden wrote: |
I could use words like AWESOME, SUPER COOL, and WOWZERS, but I won't cause then everyone will think I'm a fanboy... Who am I kidding. I've been a fanboy for 10 years now, so why stop now. Kudos to the dev team at EALA. C&C3 IS a worthy addition to the Command & Conquer franchise.
I've played the game for a few hours...went through the tutorial, missions, and then some skirmish play. C&C3 gets the Lion Thumbs Up. I tested the demo on two computers. One that I built strictly for gaming, and a Dell computer. My gaming comp handled everything that was thrown at it (all graphics on high and ultra)...not even a burp. Very smooth from start to finish. You can check the specs of my gaming comp HERE. The Dell I tested it on was a Pentium 4-2.53GHZ with 512MB Ram and a 128MB TI4200 vid card. Had to turn the graphics down a tad, but gameplay was just as smooth as on my gaming comp.
The ONLY gripe I have is the right mouse click move/attack. I'm use to left click move in C&C games, and right click deselect. I know most other RTS games nowadays are right click. Just hope maybe we can get the option of changing this in the full version of the game.
Pics below are in 1600X900 resolution (wide screen). I also ran the game in 1680X1050 with no problems. Graphics are beautiful, and I'm very satisfied with what I've seen so far. Those of you who've played the demo, go ahead and add your thoughts.
