|
 |
I've upgraded my firefox to version 2.X a few days ago and it went nuts...
It worked perfectly well in the first time, but then somehow it got fucked.
Yesterday when I loaded it after starting windows, I discovered that all my information was erased- bookmarks, passwords etc... And it acted like it's it's completely fresh installed.
Anyway I managed to live with that, but today when I loaded it up again, the same thing happend... Everything got erased...
Any ideas?
There's another problem... Maybe they're related... Sometimes on windows startup the windows firewall just shuts itself off for no reason and then comes this bubble saying that I don't have a firewall installed.

Try looking for that lost information in:
Code: | C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles |
Did you try uninstalling FF and reinstalling it again? Never was a fan of upgrading...

Hmmm... I don't find the "Application data" folder.
Will probably try to reinstall it...

Rename the backup html file to bookmarks.html and put it in the main profile directory.

O.K The firefox problem may be fixed... But I still have a problem with the firewall...
Everytime on windows startup it says that there's no firewall installed and the windows one is always turned off...
when I think about it, this started happening after a windows security update.
another microsoft fuckup?

I thought at first that maybe my antivirus (avast) is somehow disabling it, so I uninstalled it, but the problem remained. I've installed NOD32 instead and the problem is still there...
Anytime I reboot, the firewall is turned off...

Sounds more like a feature than a bug.

Forget the completly useless windows XP firewall shit, disable it and use a free but decent one like comodo.
Also desactivate the security center service if it annoys you.

Mark, do by any chance have nForce mobo with that firewall nVidia installs by default? I know it causes many problems with the Windows Firewall.

Does it have a firewall installed with the drivers? Windows Firewall shuts itself down when it detects other firewalls.

No there wasn't a firewall within the drives.
It worked perfectly for months with the windows firewall turned on until recent days.
Now it shuts itself off on every startup and I get the "No firewall installed" warning.

Dunno, scanned with NOD32 and found nothing.
I still can turn the firewall on manually.

I still can turn the firewall on manually. | You may have a look at the windows Event viewer logs (administrative tools) to see if an event describe/explain the Windows Firewall malfunction.
