Is it possible for someone to remove the coding of the modchips of wiinja and cyclowiz and then appy the coding into a firmware hack for the wii instead of having to use a modchip?

I hear that all your paying for is a IC or a PIC which has a bunch of coding on, so that means you don't actually need a modchip on you wii, am i right or way off?

Yeah, Thats about right. The winijia is just a PIC chip (worth about 60p!) and it has the code on it needed for the hack.

Someone would need to release the code so they can use their own PIC chips and use a programmer (hardware) to write the code on the chip.

oh right, but if you need to use your own pic chip and a programmer, then i imagine you would still need to solder that chip into your wii, so it basically the same as getting the wiinja chip but for a fraction of the cost. I was talking more about having just a piece of flashable code on a firmware that you can update the wii with by connecting the wii to a PC. I guess this is not what you mean or cannot even be done, please explain further.

No. The code on a pic is far more basic than firmware. A pic chip is just a complex switch.

The code on it may well be hacked as it was on the playstation modchip.
So you'll need a programmer and blank pics.

Well, If these drives are anything like the 360 drives then it might be possible for these drives to be (re)flashed without a modchip. Therefore it can be updated easy.

For now, you have two choices :

(Not PIC, Can't update, Hard to replace)

(PIC, Can't update, Can be replaced)

OR

Wait for the modchip called the Wiikey (can update) thats supposed to be out soon.

Hey guys, thanks for your replys

Jenni, just so i am straight on this, so your saying you still need a programmer and blank pics so that still means i have to solder the pic to the wii.

Tell me please anyone

when will there be a solution, where you can connect the wii to a PC and flash it using a hacked firmware? like with the extreme firmware for Hitachi drives on the Xbox 360

Yes you'll have to solder the pic onto the drive circuit. But it is an easy job. Even easier than the ps1. As soldering goes, the points are as big as foot ball fields/

Unknown on the pc flashing. With this hack out I doubt anyone will even try.

Have you actually opened your Wii and had a look at the points?? I would hazzard a guess at no! because i did today and the points are smaller than any of the points on the psx . Having said that, i do agree it is still a relativley easy mod to perform.

No because I don't have a wii. However looking at those photos I would say it seems quite large.

Yes the pics are very deceiving...they are actually quite small.

Still, soldering onto a solder pad is far easier than soldering onto a chip leg.
