Hi,

i just noticed today that the 'HITS' counter for each NFO seems to have increased about 100x.. i mean where i expect 5,000 max i see 500,000... what's going on?
And it seems to be increasing very fast too...

I mean maybe i never looked that closely but i don't remember hit counts like that.
I would not be surprised if BSA like people do automated hit counts so that they can then claim 'look 600,000 views in half a day, that means 345345093x10^3242 people downloading!!!' Sad

anyhow, just wondering...

why care

and nfo click = download??? whats the link

my guess = some kid wrote an auto downloader, that clicked the nfos and grabs it. He has crap bot, and does the front page every 1 min or so to be sure he is grabbing everything 'o sec' Wink

Hits look about right to me, there are a lot of people who use NFOrce, plus the number of RSS feeds/bots/etc will also add to the NFO hit count I imagine.

i didn't say that there is any connection between the hit counter and downloads, i just said some dumb people will think there is a connection and some dumber people will believe it to make some even dumber statistics.

i said i was wondering what or if something was different.

thanks for the answer sYn.
i guess i just never paid much attention and this is normal after all.

Yep the hit counters are totally fucked up. Im too lazy to read all the releases through so I always check the hits amount first and find what's hot atm. Smile

well..having the hit count that high might make really stupid people join the forums and asking where to download stuff since "other people" are. Which wouldnt explain the growing numbers of requests latley. should close the registrations again Sad

Many threads are just fake "users", from someone who thinks it fun to do them. Thats my guess.
Ive been here for a while and some of the people "requesting" just seems made up.

i dont care, it doesnt bother me but one day 2 weeks ago or something the hits looked normal...then the next day half of the hits on the page were up in the 100,000-1mil mark

just looked these up:
i mean come on, "Im My Butt" was viewed 2,042,175 times? it might be a great pron but really...
UFO: Afterlite was viewed 11,930,387 times?
one of the Trick My Truck's was viewed 324,940 times? i dont think that many people actually watch that show when its on TV
Another World viewed 62,024,987 times? come on, go look at the games screenshots

"Hits" isn't defined anywhere. For all you know, hits might indicate how much someone likes this release on an interval [0,inf), in Z+. That's what I'd naturally assume. Or something about geese, they are natural. And tasty! Why would anyone assume that hits means internet clicks? I demand a proper definition!

personally i think its just a mess up in some code..

i been wondering the same thing for like a month - but i definitely know that the releases doesnt get nowhere near that many hits usually...

i know this isnt done intentionally..
