well to be fair, anyone who doesnt know anything at all about a subject is a noob, so hes not wrong.. lol, anyway chill out.
best way to rip a dvd is to use dvddecrypter to take the crap off the dvd, then u can use gordian knot's tools to calculate ur target video size, strip the ac3, encode mp3 if u wish, whatever... i just use gordian because its got a great collection of tools that you can use. finally load up and do your encoding through vdub. check out doom9, aaaaaaaaall the info you need can be found there, thats where i learned.

oh my bad, then yeah tmpgenc, lol. but yeah, doom9 is the best place to go to learn... atleast i got that bit right!
