i work for one of the lagest computer company.
the vista activation here is based on OEM SLP
The SLP validation process verifies a special OEM certificate, signed by Microsoft, against a public key contained in the hardware ACPI BIOS table. If these checks are successful, you are notified upon first logon that activation has succeeded. If unsuccessful, APP is triggered and takes over the activation process
so basicly if the bios code got ported to any other bios and the same dvd is used it would work on any other system.

Wow, what a difference in desktop/gaming performance when you turn Aero off. Alt Tabbing during a full screen game with Aero on is a nightmare. I've set all my games to disable it on start up and thankfully it does it very fast.
But sadly I can't live without Aero

Kamel, you can set Vista to turn off Aero when you are gaming. Unfortunately, stupid MS made it so you have to choose that option per game.

Do you keep it on at all times or swap off and on when your on desktop or gaming? The way to disable it is just Shortcut -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Disable Desktop Composition right.
Now I need to figure out if I should disable the superfetch service or keep it running. Aero takes up 40Mb of ram, the gadgets take up another 40-50 and I have no clue if superfetch keeps what it stores in memory while I play a game or if it flushes it to free up memory for the game. BF2142 is noticably hitchier since more resources are being used in Vista. I've disabled about a dozen services so far and have been using Vista Manager to tweak stuff.

As a rule, never disable the SuperFetch service. About AERO, the only games I actually tried on Vista were RoboBlitz and Rainbow Six Vegas to test UE3 performance, and CoH. In all cases, Aero was shut down automatically until I closed the game. So it's ok in those games I guess.

Then it looks like 2 gigs of ram will make the Vista experience more enjoyable.

It sure does...
But 1GB is fine as well. I bought the extra 1 gig for games mainly. Vista was running great on 1GB.

I have installed Ultimate X64 without a key. Then within the cmd i have set the date to 31!2/2099.
I have used the command slmgr.vbs -rearm. Then i have set the take back to normal within the cmd. I installed the patch and restart my system but it doesn't seem the work the crack.
Do i have to restart after the rearm command?

Install Vista with no key. Select any SKU you want. When Vista boots after install, run CMD with admin rights, type "date", change the year to 2052. Now type "slmgr.vbs -rearm". Wait for the confirmation. Type "date" again, and set year to 2007. Run the crack EXE, install the service and reboot. Woohoo, you have a cracked Vista. |
This is probably an incredibly newbish problem, and i have a feeling i'm missing something incredibly important, but i followed this short little description of how to crack vista and when i try to run slmgr.vbs -rearm it denies me saying i don't have the permission, i've already edited the file up the butt in safemode to have full control, but it still doesn't work, i've tried searching about 15 pages in this abyss of a thread but found nothing and looked around a bit on the antiwpa forum, but nothing about a stupid problem about running slmgr.vbs -rearm

oh no:( yes, i've tried that, it shows the little shield next to it too and i've tried the little windows button plus R, and it still gives me permission denied, does it matter if i'm in safemode or not? Right now it already locked me out of vista, i tried to restart the trial mode but for some reason that didn't work either...

i'm writting in here so i dun make another "lost" topic..
i'm thinkin' of re-installing Windows Vista but on a PARTITION...so i can have my Win XP SP2 UEv6 and W.Vista (For Testing Purposes)
i've heard that W.Vista requires 40GB of free space and 15GB to introduce data, isn't it?..
So i was thinking of making the partition...i have 129GB/186GB free...how can i make a partition of 40 or 50GB so i can install Windows Vista there and "play" with it?..Can i make partitions using the Windows Vista installer using the Win XP interface and not the DOS one?..
Another thing i was wondering about...if i make this partition, can i make a full clean install of Windows Vista HOME PREMIUM edition instead of Ultimate?..
and one last thing...in case the partition and install gets a success...how can i choose an OS when i start my machine,so i can choose WinXP or Vista in a DOS window? (i heard it's possible)
Detailed and nicely help will be thanked!! (please no "omg wtf!" stuff..)

Is there a way of bypassing the activation of vista with a genuine key?
Is it any different from the torrents
I've got a retail version but don't want to activate due to me always changing my system and formatting monthly.
Also does vista phone home about other apps on your system?
Cheers

Let me quote myself (again)... This time I'll set the font huge and involve some color, so you can read it more clearly.

Anyone else think the crack procedure should be stickied or something? Or is there a single website or blog page where I can point my friends when they ask how to do it?
Also- is it true that the x64 version is a POS? Or were those early problems due to bad driver support, etc.?
