Here I will correct it for you: "He's brilliant there."
As I already said there is no use spending 10 minutes typing a long message about the games many faults. A fanboi can't see the truth.

Its kinda funny, that someone claims the other isnt able to see the 'truth'.
The simple fact that someone talks as if his opinion would be the only possible truth shows who's the trully narrow minded and ignorant here.
Then again, i doubt such a simpleton would realize, let alone acknowledge the inherent contradiction in his own statements.

Exactly FANBOY.
6.4 out of 10:
Quote: | Despite some bright spots, UFO: Aftermath isn't a fitting sequel to X-COM, and, on its own merits, it just isn't a good tactical combat simulator. |
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/ufoaftermath/review.html
59 out of 100:
Quote: | So UFO: Aftermath’s box led me to believe one of two things must be true: either the game royally sucks, or somebody at Cenega Publishing should get fired. My guess is the answer is “both.” Certainly the future coaster / frisbee known as UFO: Aftermath is a disturbingly bad game, but I’d be shocked if the four sentences Cenega used were the four most favorable ones available. Even bad reviews and previews usually have a nice sentence or two about the game. You know, something like, “The game sucked, but watching aliens blow up is fun!” Even this review might have a positive sentence somewhere in it (don’t blink!). |

Quote: | It's hard to label UFO: Aftermath as anything but a disappointment. Even though it follows in the footsteps of one of the most identifiable, even iconic, games ever released, ALTAR Interactive's tribute is little more than a generic tactical combat simulator that doesn't do anything particularly well. Add to that an almost complete absence of personality, and you have a game with limited appeal that won't make anyone forget about X-COM. |

If questioning their opinion is attacking them, then yea.. i tend to attack people, even if i more or less agree with them. I always question things that have not been proven 100% by facts and proper reasons.
It might be annoying if you are unable or unwilling to find a reason for your opinion, thats not my problem though. The point still stands. Unless you can prove things, and have a reason for your thoughts, it is mere feelings we are talking about.
Feelings - by their nature - are subjective, and useless in a discussion, as for every person with a given feeling, you will find just as many with the opposite feeling.
So they might be real for you, but are worth absolutely zero to others. Thats why i say, i can accept that you don't like UFO:AS, i just think you are not right in your opinion.
We can discuss it if you want, or leave it as it is. It doesnt really matters either. I gave up on you a good few posts ago

Did it ever occur to you, that the thread is about UFO:AfterLight, and even I was consistently talking about UFO:AS - that is UFO:AfterShock?
Yes, UFO:AfterMath is not a worthy sequel to XCOM - though it was never intended to be one. It is terribly bug ridden, even with the last patch. The only really good point of it was its combat system, but even that was lacking some things.
So while i played UFO:AfterMath as well, it was mere placebo, only good to leave you with an even deeper need for some good stuff.
So i hope we can leave UFO:AM from now on. Let the dead rest in pieces.

Yeah, im also curious how UFO:ET plays, though would i have to pick between XCOM:UFO and UFO:AS now, it would be a hard choice and i would probably go for AS, as it is that much more advanced in the tactical level - which is my favorite part of the game anyway.
Since UFO:ET seems to be more like a copy C:/XCOM/*.* than a new game, i dont have high hopes about it. Then again, the more UFO games, the merrier.

Did anyone actually play the demo? All you guys have discussed is the previous versions of the game. Anyone going to comment on this one?

Standby to be abused by the fanboys.
But seriously Vorrax, I have tried all the Altar UFO games and each time I prayed they would finally get it right. Each new version has minor improvements but they still blow monkey chunks.

!! no demo is worth downloading !!
If the demo is bad:
First of all, demos are sometimes done with an earlier code base than what the final version will have.. some consider it an extended beta testing, during which they can tweak aspects of the game to fit a wider audience.
So you might get a bad impression of a game based on a demo, when there might be some fundamental changes in the release version (has happened in the past), or a patch will come on - a few days off release date to correct the biggest issues people have.
If the demo is good:
Then you will feel terrible for having such a nice game just barely out of your reach until it is released.
So all in one, a bad demo is a waste of time and might discourage you from the actual game, a good demo on the other hand makes you suffer until the actual game gets finally released.
I say: forget the demos. if you care about demos as you don't want to buy a game blindly, then just DL a ... well... liberated version of it, to see if its really what you need.
Personally i made the mistake of trying the demo both with UFO:AM, and ROME:TW. The first demo got me all crazy about the game, just to have the reality smashed into my face when the final game came out with basically no management at all. A big disappointment.
ROME:TW was a completely different issue. After trying the demo, i was basically sick for not being able to play it more.
Since then.. no demos for me, thank you.

Camera movement / control is one of the issues that typically get fixed quite early.Given, that it is an issue for most, and not just a rare case of 'i dont like it'.
Since more and more games are released with quite a few bugs, a friend of mine goes even a step further than me in the no-demo policy. He usually refuses to play games before their first (in case of some titles / companies even later) patch..

Well I guess I'll just wait then. As this is being released on the 9th and the UFO ET is on the 27th I won't have to wait very long for a decent review of the game. I've never played any of the UFO series, but I did play Fallout Tactics and Fallout 2. I was told that the XCOM games and UFO games were like Fallout Tactics and I've been looking for a decent squad based game for a while.

Well, being a dedicated fan of all that is small squad tactical warfare, i can tell you that UFO:AS (not AM!) has everything a tactical game fan would want. Lots of various weapons, different stances, firing modes, aiming options, visibility etc...
I have not tried UFO:AL yet - see my demo policy - but from what i've gathered, in the tactical aspect it is just like AS, so for the tactical part, i wouldnt worry.
Then again, regardless of UFO:AS / AL, you might want to play the following games if you have not played them yet
Fallout
Fallout 2
Fallout Tactics
XCOM: Alien Unknown (aka UFO1)
XCOM: Terror from the deep (aka UFO2)
UFO: Aftershock (not to be confused with XCOM games)
Jagged Alliance 2
Brigade E5 - Jagged Nation
These are the small squad tactical themed games that i can remember to have played Brigade E5 is actually a JA2 clone, but in 3D. Not a great game, but definitely worth playing for a while.

I enjoy these games for a few hours but they lack the addictive qualities that Xcom had in my opinion.
Some people obviously enjoy these games very much though. Perhaps someone who actually tried the demo can answer you. |
You really are the 'special' kid eh? You are spazzing out in a thread of a totally different game than the one you are raving about, then admit to not even trying the demo.
I am kinda looking forward to this one, Doesn't look like the ET will hold my interest with its very basic looking graphics (I just don't think you can justify it over gameplay, who says one has to be sacraficed for the other?).
