I am no expert but because I can usually fix my own PC my friends think I am.

My friends phoning up every day almost with the same problem, his nero crashes while encoding, he thinks his processor is faulty.
Its only started since he,
A : attempted to update a warez copy of nero with the ahead site.
B : installed divx

He installed divx because media player didnt play a film.
He's allready ignored my advice to use vlc like he seems to have ignored my advice many times in the past but he still phones up.

FUCK!!! i'm losing my patience / sanity

Ohh ye I hate it too.
I hate it the most when I need to reformat, and then they leave me alone to do that and they are going to watch TV or whatever.

haha yeah, you do the dirty work while they have fun. Like they do whatever they can't not to learn by themselfs. I help people with computers everyday at work, some lean easier than others.

The thing that annoyes me most is people who don't use tab, and in stead have to use 10 sec on hitting the spot underneath with the mouse :\

I have 16 computers in my house. Yes, 16. And only 4 are in the garage. I don't have time for my friends Wink

And 3 internet connections. Mods can testify; my IP address changes to another ISP every month or so.

I had a living hell when I worked at a factory and the company offered cheap computers to their 300+ workers...I think the first 2-3 weeks I had almost no chance what so ever to use my own computer cos of this. I helped a good mate at the factory and then the word spread Sad atleast it was just 20+ people who I had to help..but still.

shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

Still, I like to brag about it Smile

I did a really stupid thing. I sold a computer to a friend. Another apple but I re-installed everything and added a bunch of stuff she wanted.
She is really hopeless at it. She has problems using hotmail. She expects me to do everything, like deal with her ISP. Then she get bitchy when I tell her to do it. I should of gave it to my family.

I kinda like helping people but I like to help those who are going to help themselves a bit. She has helped herself in the wrong way. LOL She is trying to tell me I promised her a printer and scanner too which I didn't because the printer is my back up. Some people expect to much. Sad

I knew you was that kind of guy.

Anyway there was an older woman on another department who asked if i could format her PC and get her some good antivirus. She asked: "How much" i was like... WTF. It was in the worktime. And the PC was not member of our domain. So I said i could do it but not in worktime. And not with their licenses and stuff. Old people pay good, but i wouldn't do it for much.

noobs are all over me when i come to the other departmens. Ask about all kinds of stuff. If our servers are down im allmost killed by questions..

Well to stoppeople ringing me up to fix stupid things like the wrong player opening the media file I now say to people that they have to pay for my fuel.

It didn't stop people ringing me up, but it has reduced it.

@Jeni
That is a great idea. I think sometimes you have to ask for something because I think it makes people appreciate you more.

My friends husband is helping people with their pc's. Anyway he is making some good coin off it and it is something he enjoys.

@Jp
I put a typing program and 2 differemt word processing programs. I thought she could learn them and maybe end up getting a job or something. She hits return at the end of every line and then it screws up the margins. She doesn't really seem to be interested in them now that she has them.

The only people who I take the time out to seriously help with their computing problems are my parents and my sister. Everyone else can stick it, especially my friends. I just tell them they have to learn for themselves and thats that. Which of course is true.

When I was living in a house with 8 other people, all of whom had computers or laptops, it could have potentially been a living hell for me. But luckily one of the guys was doing e-commerce at university, so I just told people he was the expert and they all went to him. I think he lost it in about the second month. Very Happy

Well im the computer guy for all my friends and family as well. But i enjoy it and i really feel what comesa around, goes around. I dont expect anything in return, but its nice to know that i have soime trades people, accountants etc willing to help me if needed. But with friends i will only spoon feed a couple times, after that i just send them forum links to help them selves, after that, they are stuck with google.

I also run a pro bono computer company out of my house. We replace at least 1 or 2 computers in the office every month. So my work gives them to me, and i format, etc and then donate them to charities, schools, or friends if they need a computer. But i also have a wavier(Not for friends though) drawn up by my lawyer so i dont get bit in the ass. I have done free work for schools in the past, then all of a sudden, any problem they have is mine.

I love helping people with old computers, keeps them out of the landfills, and me out of the bars. As long as they understand as is, and no warrenties.

especialy like to do that when i'm alone and no one breathing down my neck asking stupid question that they'll forget answers to in next 10 minutes Razz
one of the guys took his pc to repairs and all they did changed ide cable and took 100 euro from him, now if only he knew that i could do that just for 5 euro [cable price] Very Happy

I don't mind helping friends, aslong as they don't take it for granted. I don't know much, but it's not hard to google things. Well, for me it's not, it seems to be quite hard for most my friends though Laughing
