I'm hoping thats not the case with Crysis.
| Imho dynamic obstacle avoidance is hard to do plus it probably requires powerfull hardware cpu to run this all. Games and hardware are not ready for this. All they need to do is to entertain you, but still keep a dose of realism imitation for the AI.

Not simpleminded at all. As you very well know, we are not talking about Ubisoft, Valve (cough cough, Gabe is a liar), or any other good-to-mediocre development houses here. Crytek might be new, but they are in the league with Epic and id. Far Cry was a real technological bomb out of nowhere, and so is Crysis. Crytek has now got an even bigger development team, so I don't doubt for a second that the AI will be more cunning and clever than in Far Cry.

Nothing at all. Ubisoft published Far Cry, then Crytek split from them, but Ubisoft still owns the right to the Far Cry trademark.

it has to do with what I said about gameplay, read my last couple posts from when I mentioned UBI being a shit company (imo) |
well.. judging by the last Far Cry.. on the wii that got a mere 5.6(i think) on gamespot.. yes..Ubi have ruined Far Cry.. with remakes and sequels.. and the base game just beeing the same... or (as FC Vengence) worse. but let's not forget that they have plenty of other franchises.. Splinter cell( 1-AWSOME 2-GOOD 3-EXCELENT(almost SUPERB) 4-MEDIOCRE ->my own opinions).. Prince of Persia(Sands of time ->EXCELENT, Warrior Within->GOOD as an overall(GREAT atmosphere & setting), The Two Thrones->GOOD-GREAT but wasn't the game i wanted... kindred blades that was announced at first).. and Rainbow six.. and ghost recon.. they have a lot of franchises that are GOOD to say the least.. FarCry was Crytek's and should've stayed that way(IMO FarCry for PC had shit story just graphics & sound(and only in the paradise setting.. in other setting it wouldn't look that great ), and maybe Crytek shouldn've leaved from Ubi. EA is just graphics and nothing else. Ubi is not getting much from FarCry, and they just can't make a good one lately, too bad... but you just can't state that ubi is a shit company.
As for Crysis... i'm looking forward to seeing it on a high-end PC(not mine, i won't dare to install it on my pc unless i am shure that i can run it), but i don't expect anything else except the graphics. I see the gameplay beeing very stupid with that ugly menu that pops in the middle of the screen and destroys your sence of action and covers all the screen. It's just a too big breaker .. i prefer the Rainbow Six Vegas interface.. looks better, it's more discreet and it's not that a big breaker.

that menu doesn't destroy anything, no one that had any sense wouldnt pop the menu up in the middle of a firefight unless they were god. same thing with vegas, you dont pop that menu up unless your under cover

Erm, what the fuck have Crytek ever done except release a wholly overrated graphics frenzy called Far Cry?

Nothing, but the fact that game being their first was one of the best FPS's of the year and still is. You may not of liked it but the fact remains it didnt suck. And also keep in mind even though the GFX were better and still are better than half the games in existance, you didnt need a uber leet computer to run it so it shows they can code better than prob any other dev around. And now that they made their name they have twice the staff they did when they first made that game.

So you don't like Far Cry and/or you don't like me bashing fatass Gabe , but either way you have to admit that Crytek know their stuff. My arguement was in any case that the AI will be better than in Far Cry, which is by that standard pretty damn good.

"Far Cry" and "F.E.A.R" have had the best AI of any PC game...so far, in MHO.
Surely "Crysis" will be kick ass and I am sure a "benchmark" in both Graphics, Gameplay, Level Design and AI, just like "Far Cry" when it came.

F.E.A.R has the best AI for any FPS ever, and no game comes even close, IMO. Crysis may or may not beat it, we simply know nothing about the AI yet.

Well I wouldn't even begin to compare an in-door only AI with an outdoor AI that has physics involved.

speaking of physics, is it just me or is the worst part of ANY FPS the god damn broken gernades. They explode and throw shrapnel, but always seems someoen can hide on the other side of a wooden table and survive. The area of effect is usually shitty or they dont do enough damage. Finally Vegas is the first to have any real gernade effect. but any other game their pretty much useless unless they land at their feet.

FEAR, yes, great A.I. teamwork, using cover weapons, etc.
Far Cry, not quite. how come if i'm in a thick layer of vegetation and i can't see the enemy the enemy sees me? like i haven't warned him of my presence. i walk on crouch and just hide in the THICK layer of vegetation. i get shot at. that's not good A.I. and they don't work like a team so good. the monsters IMO are far more tactical than the soldiers in FC.

TBH, I don't remember much from the AI in Farcry. Remember it being a cracking game though. However, as I said, F.E.A.R is unchallenged when it comes to enemy AI though.

AI in close quarters with dozens of predefined paths and "scenarios" is totally different from AI in open spaces.

I think a mark of good AI is how well it emulates fallibility, at least if i'm fighting humans.
I don't want to be fighting guys who can see me from half a mile away and start attacking even though I shot at them with silenced weapons. Who seem ridiculously accurate even when i'm obscured. Who always seem to know where I am after being alerted, even if I run off and hide etc....
Thats what the AI in Farcry is like, it's not good AI, they just gave the enemies superhuman senses. They do work in a team to a small degree, but thats it. I can't even remember if they take cover, they just seemed to run around semi-randomly which made it look like they were moving from cover to cover.
For me the AI in Rainbow 6: Vegas is the best yet, as it really makes it seem like your enemies are only human too. Not some fearless drone. I'd say TerroristHunt is the best mode to see this, because you're alone against so many AI's they have a chance to work together.
