Man those screenshots or the real term "Publicity Renders" they keep churning out periodically really piss me off. They seem completely far fetched in terms of what we have seen through in game footage and what they are showing in pictures.

You guys see that pic of the main character smashing through the ceiling of the home with his fist? And then watch the recently released DX10 footage and he smacks a similar homes ceiling with his gun and it falls into 2 pieces! Confused

Like it matters, graphics is the icing and physics is the cherry on top, gameplay makes or breaks a game.

Actually umm, the reason why this game has accumulated 90% of its interest is because of the huge leap graphically and technology wise. Considering it sparked interest far before any "gameplay" footage was shown because of those "publicity renders" shows you what the audience is really looking forward to.

A lot of people could give a shit less about how it plays, they rather see accurately rendered 3D waves and see trees break with gunfire.

I say the game could play terribly but because of the technology in use people will look past its mediocre gameplay and place its graphics on a pedestal above everything else, what will break it is if what they are "showing" is not provided.

Look at Oblivion, the game blows from a RPG stand point but people can't stop complimenting its "gorgeous environments." It's all you hear, that its the best looking game, people play that shit to stare at the wilderness haha just like they will with Crysis.

crysis is like a show case for enticing ppl to buy windows and others to upgrade their rigs.
don't expect more than a showcase, cos you wont be able to run it at full details, nor find joy in the alien shooting long beated type of story and gameplay ..but what a showcase!

Oh man, this game is REALLY worth upgrading for. I will wait until it's out and then get a DX10 Gfx card. I don't play very much lately, but this sucker will rock real hard!

agree with you.

we all know i guess, that the main trigger to change systems in maybe..most of the cases is new graphic engins thecnologies, but still a good company will support wide range of systems from low to high and crytek is one of them...i hope lol

i remeber it from farcry-me and some friends of mine played it on 1.7 ghz 256ram and some with geforce 4ti 128 and some with radeon 9600 and..it was a bit laggy, but playable.

According to Yerli, Crysis should be playable on a 3-year old machine.

http://www.wired.com/news/culture/games/0,72443-1.html?tw=wn_story_page_next1

Now I don't buy into that shit at all, it's bullshit. No way in hell can you run Crysis on a 3-year old junk machine at a playable state.

It's too early to talk about system requirements, but Yerli said that you'll probably want a pretty powerful PC to enjoy the game. While they haven't identified a target CPU, you will need a graphics card with support for shader model 2.0. With that said, he noted that Far Cry was pretty scalable on a wide variety of systems once it shipped, so we can expect the same with Crysis.

It's not, it barely entered alpha-stage, so it's not optimized yet. You won't see it until late summer at earliest.

About people saying its rendered. The fact that the wood actually breaks realistically... I read somewhere crytek just only implented real-time wood and vegetation destruction and terrain deformation. I'm pretty positive that those pics aren't rendered, we're talking about dx10 here. Look what incredible technical achievement crytek have created up to now, I'm sure they don't need to cheat on us with pre-rendered pics...

About that scaling 3 years in the past and 1.5 years in the future thing. I thought he said that setting the game to the lowest quality level graphically would give you visuals comparable if not better then Farcry. Now consider any card and its pet goldfish can run Farcry at max settings then thats some very nice scalability.

Although graphics is certainly not the biggest factor for a game to be good, Crysis' screenshots are actually the first of a game ever, where I simply can't put my finger on why it isn't real right away.

I still see it's not real, but it takes some time to actually notice the relatively low (compared to RL) textures and jagged edges.

I think that is quite an accomplishment, and the next big thing will be photorealistic realtime rendering, I think.

damn...that's background quality lol.

While I'm loving this new engine, I also hate it, with this game pushing it so hard, it's being done by a good dev. If EA, UBI, Chome, and a few others get their hands on something looking this good their gunna do nothing but fuck it up. GRAW was gorgeous but they let GRIN develop it. Go to their page and look at past games they made, pety lil bullshit. Im surprised ubi did so good on RS6 Vegas even for it being a console port.

New video for gameplay..

damn, I just reinstalled farcry just cause it reminds me of crysis and even when you tweak the shit out of this game to squeeze more beauty out of it, it still looks better than most games out today and I was getting 80+ FPS, im sure they can pull something off like this on crysis. I also just now tried cartoon rendering..how fun..lol

cartoon? were, were?

also on optimization:

In an earlier article, it was reported that Crysis was running at 60+ fps for most of the time at CES 2007. In this new article, Jack Mamais tells techspot that the game is running at a resolution of 2048x1536. Judging by the HUD size in the images below, this seems like it's true. Combine that information with the fact that most of the code is still unoptimized, and you can easily understand how well Crysis will run. Take note that Crysis was running in DX10 at CES 2007, so could Microsoft's claim of 6 to 8 time the performance be true? If you read some of the earlier news items or read the techspot link posted below, you'd also know that Crysis was running an unknown core 2 duo processor and a single 8800GTX.

This really is incredible news. This proves that any current DX10 rig will run Crysis perfectly smooth with all graphical settings max at a resolution of atleast 1600x1200. Like mentioned above, the size of the HUD in the images below tells us that the game was running at a fairly high resolution which appears to have AA enabled and cranked pretty high.

I'm predicting that a mid-range DX10 card (8600GT / X2600XT) will run Crysis in DX10, better than any current DX9 rig running Crysis in DX9.

Finally, we can all rest easy.

Bullshit.
Most people play Oblivion because of gameplay, not just that it looks good.
100h is not rare and it's hard to think that gamers would just look at "gorgeous environments" for that time. Good graphics is a plus, an addition to gameplay, immersion, whatever.

Far Cry had "gorgeous graphics" when it launched and it had good gameplay too. I really doubt it came this far by only its good looks.
Crysis might be shitty to play, who knows, but crysis rides with the promise of gameplay that came with farcy And good looks that we see now from videos.
