I am pissed off with steam, today i found half life anthology for cheap.
decided yay finally cs 1.6 for a fair price.
when i then install it on steam, there is no way to get cs installed and working.
i look on the internet since counter strike is supposed to be a free mod for half life owners.
and find steaminstall_cs.exe or something like that, i'm like sweet this must be it!
when i install it, it just adds counter strike.gcf files in my game folder.
open steam up right click
game is preloaded
and it tells me to BUY COUNTERSTRIKE WTF?
i would of if i never wasted my money on this damn anthology.
it just sickens me that you can't play cs1.6 when you buy half life or anthology.
i have purchased hl2 from them only to find that CSS sucks and basically just was made to get more money fromthe Counter-Strike name.
Fuck Steam.
WON was great anyways.
There is a project called WON2 and i am downloading it now to use.
i'm glad that other people realize valve fucked up, and there should be no steam.
Steams GUI annoys the hell out of me anyways because it sucks anus.

Fuck steam and any other system that forces you to register online to do anything (even play single-player or free mods)
What if Valve isn't around in 10 years ? What if someone doesn't have an internet connection? What if the servers are down?
Anyway it's been cracked all the way to paradise, steamrips are flying around us. No decent copy protection, just problems and inconveniences.
On a side note, I hate how they have turned the half life franchise into a soap opera with all the episode thingies. I've given up on it a long time ago.
@GLHF
Thanks for another irritating and useless post, fuck you

Steam is the best thing ever with a internet conection and a creditcard.
Half-life 2 is the best game ever and the episodes is the best, only 1 year for a new game isnted of 3.
CS? never like that game HL2: DM is funny tho.

Steam is great, at least, potentially. I've had no problems with it myself and find the whole purchasing aspect satisfactory. It's fairly cheap (but still a rip off given the delivery system), and fast (I have 8Mbps).
I don't really like stealing, but the internet evolution has made this even easier than buying.
Others here might differ.
So for me programs like iTunes and Steam are very promising. In the case of Steam however I don't feel they are anywhere near reaching their potential.
If I see a game on Steam I'll think about buying it. If I don't see a game on Steam then I'll just download it. (there are some games, and developers who get my loyalty based on their continued excellence but they are few and far between).

I disagree, Half Life 2 was incredibly average. Episode One likewise. I bought both, and I've enjoyed and played through both - but they don't do enough in my opinion to break from the mould. Generic is putting it lightly. Still, they aren't shit and the episodic format is actually something that could be exploited to good effect. People are so scared of change, but when has paying for crap ever been satisfactory? Never.
Hence, it doesn't matter what format the game is in (to us - from the standpoint of consumers), all that matters is the quality. For me, Episode One is worth the money. It's not crap, it's not great but it's an entertaining enough continuation of the adventure. I didn't feel cheated, but again others may differ (although in that case I would suggest; more fool you).

@Karmeck
Not everyone has an internet connection, not everyone has a credit card and not everyone has 8mbps connection !! So I'm happy it's easy, fast and convenient for you, but not for everyone ...
And half-life was at least 3 times bigger than its sequel. I haven't played any episodes (only the plain half life 2) Anyway, an episode more isn't a new game, it's just milking the gamers...
Sorry for whining but i'm disappointed.

Lol ffs, Steam is quite easy once you learn how to activate games on it.
Download and start steam, create a account, any account and then click the "File" "View" "Games" tabs and under games choose activate and enter the serial number.
Don't use installers or such shit, steam will download and update the game automatically though there probably won't be that many upgrades to CS 1.6. (Some AD company just got the rights to show those things so perhaps one last update will be out for it)
EDIT: Ofcourse there's nothing wrong with installers and such for mods but for the retail games such as HL, DOD, CS and such the best way, if you have a legal serial number, is to just activate the game via steam using Games -> Activate a product.

how is the hl:anthology supposed to include cs? check next time (and every time) what you are buying, i'm doubting that there was any material to suggest it included cs 1.6.
lesson learnt!
but i'm glad you got won2 working, it's always good to have an alternative to steam.
