Cevat has kindly made a statement regarding the release date for Crysis - here it is:

“There has been a lot of recent talk about Crysis' ship date. I wanted to send out a message to all those who are interested and set the record straight. The game will ship a little later than planned. I want to assure everyone that Crytek are working as hard as we possibly can to deliver this game to our fans and consumers in the earliest timeframe that meets our high quality threshold. Taking the extra time in the studio is the right decision because it helps us be sure that we can bring you the experience you expect from this new game.

2006 has been an amazing year for us and we have had great responses from press and fans coming out of Leipzig in August and E3 back in May. We appreciate all of the interest and comments -- positive and not so positive -- that we have been receiving. Crysis is an ambitious game in so many aspects and much of what we are doing will be a genuine first for the gaming industry: some of this stuff is really hard and just takes time to get right.

We are focussing our efforts right now on getting the best possible experience for the widest variety of PC configs, starting from entry-level PC's up to the hard-core game rigs. Multiplayer is also an area of big focus for us right now, and we listened very hard to our fans. This includes the post-launch modding and community plans. Crysis' core single player is improving all the time - the progress I am seeing from the team right now here in Frankfurt is just staggering.

We are tracking well and trying our very best to release the game as soon as we can but Crytek and EA can't provide a hard date just yet.”

It hasn't been delayed any further, it's just a clarification. Release date is still next fiscal year, starting in April. My bet is still summer at earliest.

Graphics & DX10 enhancements
Shadows are now soft, dynamic, terrain has support for voxel technology to offer real 3d carving, physics does support real-time breaking of vegetations, soft-deformations, advanced vehicles and an improved human physics.
Expect to see a higher degree of immersion and visual density of all simulations - that is improved lighting simulations, volumes and particles and shawdows will feel more crisp. Cevat states that DX10 has allowed Crytek to reach their video-realism goal made two years ago.

they improved dynamic terrain interaction apparantly, real-time deformation of terrain is completely new info to me. This is getting sweeter and sweeter Rolling Eyes

Good gameplay trailer. Not the best: the details and motion felt as if running on 2nd/3rd generation hardware. That could not have been running on a high-end Conroe system with an 8800GTX. Studdering = Framerate Death! Also, jungle didn't seem as detailed. Regardless.. still impressive and I so wish to play the full campaign in coop! Having 2-6 buddies in an assault time with the # of enemies scaled based on the # of coop players is soooo long overdue for the gaming industry. Guess I can dream. Razz

Don't get too excited until you actually see it in action. Farcry had 'real-time terrain deformation' which amounted to tiny craters when you shot a rocket at the ground, as long as there were no trees nearby. They looked pretty shit.

I remember watching a video where a guy asked what happens when you shoot rockets at the ground, they shot a rocket at a flat piece of land and there were the same crappy deformations as in Farcry!

Maybe they're improved it now, or maybe it's better in DX10, but don't get your hopes up.Crying or Very sad Sad

Man those screenshots or the real term "Publicity Renders" they keep churning out periodically really piss me off. They seem completely far fetched in terms of what we have seen through in game footage and what they are showing in pictures.

You guys see that pic of the main character smashing through the ceiling of the home with his fist? And then watch the recently released DX10 footage and he smacks a similar homes ceiling with his gun and it falls into 2 pieces! Confused

Like it matters, graphics is the icing and physics is the cherry on top, gameplay makes or breaks a game.

Why didnt you dish out the money for the 8800? I think the GTS is actually cheaper than that card. And if you got it from EVGA you could step up to the 8800 for pretty much nothing since that GX2 is expesnive as hell still.
