|
 |
Quote: | CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW 2007, LAS VEGAS – January 5, 2007 – Consumers' ability to store video, photos, music and other valued data will reach new heights as Hitachi Global Storage Technologies today announced the industry's first terabyte (TB) hard drive. Delivering superior performance and reliability, as well as capacity, Hitachi's 1TB hard drive meets the needs of consumers who want to create, share and store their digital information, and lots of it. Hitachi's Deskstar® 7K1000 will begin shipping to retail customers in the first quarter of 2007 at a suggested retail price of $399 (USD), or 40 cents per gigabyte (GB). This new consumer-friendly price makes ultra-high storage capacity more affordable and accessible than ever before.
Along with the Deskstar 7K1000 for the retail market, Hitachi is also announcing today a CinemaStar version 1TB hard drive, which provides optimized capabilities specifically designed for digital video recording (DVR) applications. Consumers have come to rely on their digital video recorders (DVRs) to record and store their favorite programs, and with the increasing availability of high-definition (HD) TV programming, 1TB of storage will become a necessity. High-definition video requires 4 to 5 times more storage capacity than standard-definition video and a terabyte drive allows viewers to easily store and retrieve almost 250 hours of HD programming (additional storage facts can be found in the accompanying press release addendum).
"The industry's first one-terabyte hard drive represents a milestone that is 50 years in the making, and it reasserts the hard drive's leadership as the highest-capacity, lowest-cost storage technology," said Shinjiro Iwata, chief marketing officer, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. "In the 51 st year, Hitachi is leading a new era for hard drives -- not only providing large amounts of affordable storage, but also customizing and optimizing hard drives to deliver products that are smarter, more durable and more useful to the consumer. |

THAT FUCKING DRIVE BETTER BE RELIABLE! I cannot imagine losing 1 TB of porn! SWEET BABY JESUS!
MAXTOR IS LOW-LEVEL CRAP and VERY unreliable. Stay away from MAXTOR or you will pay dearly.

I am very happy with my Maxtor 200GB. BTW 1 & 2 TB HDD's have been around for some time. Only now they are affordable for home users

You would be well advised to move your best porn to a drive that is more reliable. Just trying to save you some heartache.

I've never had a Maxtor go wrong on my and I have loads. 4 in this machine, 2 in the one in the other room. One in my Xbox. One which I have in my playstation2. In all the years I've owned Maxtor the only trouble with them I've had ws when I got an electricty spike which killed ro 30Gb drives a few years back.
I would recommend Maxtor to anyone. When I build a machine for someone I would almost certainly use Maxtor.

Have had a number of drives die on me, seen friends drives die and so on..
Almost four years ago, i bought my 80gb Seagate. Still using it as my system disk in my pc. Not a single problem. Ever. Have had WD´s, Maxtors and ofcourse IBM/Hitachis die.

Watercooled 5950X | AORUS Master X570 | Asus RTX 3090 TUF Gaming OC | 64Gb RAM | 1Tb 970 Evo Plus + 2Tb 660p | etc etc

If you really want reliable hard disks you have to go for SAS or FC drives. SCSI is dying and SATA drives are not that reliable, especially if they are on 24/7 and have to handle a lot of I/O.

Like all hardware, it just depends. I tend to buy Western Digital or Seagate but I've had a Maxtor in the past and no problems. We also have a Maxtor in our Sky+ digibox and that works fine and dandy. You win some, you lose some.

What's worse is when you lose your stuff because of your own stupidity. I was splitting hard-drives up and mistook one for the other and half way through a window installation realised I was formatting the wrong disk I spent about five minutes in literal panic trying to decide whether to pull the plug or continue overwriting all that wonderful pornography. I nearly cried

I dunno why you guys complain about Maxtor, because they made top drives for years imo. Your favorite, Seagate, seems to think the same since recently they bought them out.
