Gothic has no redeeming value other than a huge open world, which is nothing on its own. |
Please shut up. Topnotch? You've gotta be kidding me, the story was the most cliched piece of crap ever and apart from the few notable actors the voice acting was also shit. Performance was mediocre and the graphics looked like crap before you modded the .ini files (kind of like gothic 3).
Then there was the loading you get every time you entered a building/cave/town which ruined immersion, plus the leveling monsters, random loot and identical dungeons all helped to make the game average, when it could have been spectacular.
You rip on the Gothic 3 fanboi's all the time, saying they're blind to the flaws of the game, maybe they are. But you're just as bad when it comes to oblivion you hypocritical twat. |
Oblivion lives and dies by mods. Case in point - look at Morrowind out of the box compared to Gothic II. Morrowind sucked ass! Gothic2 had much better immersion, gfx, npcs. But Morrowind quickly outpaced the static world of Gothic2 with millions of mods.
Ditto for Oblivion, although there are some big roadblocks in the mod scene. Importing new objects/anims and the communication between mods are the brick walls. Still, the mods available for Oblivion leapfrog the game so far ahead of its out-of-the-box beginnings that it looks like Oblivion 2.0, especially if you have a 512MB gfx card.

this just in from the forum of jowood:)
Patch 1.12
Hi Community !
Here's the changelog of the upcoming patch:
- Fixed ambient sound bug
- Sound occlusion improved
- Several physics and character movement bugs fixed
- Inventory exploit fixed
- Camera behaviour improved
The patch will be out and available for download via the update software later this day. I will post some more links here too.
It should run fine with existing savegames, but to be sure I recommend starting a new game. Especially if you don't have patch 1.08/1.09 installed you should first unequip your character and then save before the installation.

I think that's the last big patch, only thing is left to fix is some perks like poisoning, availability to learn fire mage and improved armor(it's possible to make it manualy, requires changes in infos.pp or smt like that).
Anyone who is waiting for mysterious patch that will improve their FPS twice or make combat Gothic 1-like is fooling themselves. It's not gonna happen...

Well with such a specs, i don't know with this rig, look back into this topic with same amounts of ram and just change values yourself and test. I'm fed up with this game and i'm not gonna test it now myself. But with the 1.09 patch i could get descent framerates etc.

quote from Papy on jowood forum:
Quote: |
"Unfortunately, the patch seems to cause more problems for me than the number of problems that were solved.
Some things I noticed after a few minutes of play :
- Fire (sprite?) always appear in front of characters (both NPC and my character).
- Lens flare appear when inside (return of an old bug?).
- Sound constantly goes back and forth from my front to rear speakers when talking. Extremely annoying.
- Playing in first person view is also more annoying. Here's an example : I'm in first person view, looking north with a chess is in front of me. I click on the chess and the game goes in 3rd person (I don't like that but I can live with it), The camera set itself in front of me, and I see the chess and the face of my character (instead of my back and the chess). This means the camera is now facing south. When I close the chess, I go back in 1st person, but facing south, which means there was a 180 degree spin. There is no such spin in 3rd person. (I'd prefer these animations to be completely disabled when in first person view : click on the chess, screen appears immediately, close screen, continue exactly where and how you were.)
I have to ask... Is this the "final" patch or is it just a snapshot released before the devs go on vacation ? Are the devs still interested in bug reports ?" |
That about sums up this patch for me.

the real problem with the game is its too easy to kill everyone. you eventaully cba doing quests for hashishi when you can just easily wipe the whole cities such as ishtar single handedly.
X6800 Core Duo wasted within a shite DFI 975x/g,
2GB OCZ PC8000 XTC XE, X1900 Crossfire(have my own powerstation), Audigy 2, Z680 5.1

*resurrects topic*
Found this awesome tool, you'll be amazed at what it can do, check it out. For starters, click on remove all lightmaps and run the game, it wont look very good but you'll get a huge performance boost.
