How about any so-called proof, allegations, conspiracy theories, or whatever to fire up the discussion from the start? Smile

Nah, I think we ought to blame the condition & design of the submarine itself.

If that was the case why did the American Sub put into Norway for repairs?

Not to mention the massive aid package the yanks gave the Russians just weeks later.

I'm sorry, are you a submarine expert? I didn't know that you can judge from a pretty vague pic that it's penetration damage.

Russian experts already proved that it was an accident, a misfire that caused the torpedo to explode inside the torpedo bay.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_submarine_K-141_Kursk

If Russia itself say so, who are we to dispute it.

There are quite a few facts that could fuel such a conspiracy theory.
- Before the accident that lead to the sinking of the Kursk, the Russian fleet was engaged in an exercise. The Kursk was to fire a new high-end torpedo.
- It happened that there were two US submarines to keep track of the manoeuvre, one got damaged the other one lost a rescue buoy.
- after the incident the US government issued a huge loan to Russia.
- It seems that the US has bought this new torpedo system via Canada.
- When the Kursk was lifted from the seabed they left the most frontal compartment on the bottom of the sea, it was cut loose. This compartment was the torpedo room. Later the Russian Navy blew it up. Any evidence that could tell what went wrong, was lost this way.

I am afraid that until the US and the Russian Federation declassify their information about the incident the conspiracy theory belongs with the fishes Wink

Well lets look at that photo shall we Cleavsa. The Mk46 torpedo is designed to hit a sub mid section where the commanders station is. As the nose section has been removed we can't tell how far that indent is but we can clearly see it is an indent.

The Kursk was supposedly test firing the new Shkval to demonstrate it to the Chinese.

Also why would a Los Angeles class submarine dock at the Norwegian naval sub base called Haakonsvern. This base isn't designed for subs and subsequently the boat went to Southampton.

This was shown up on a Russian spy satellite.

I don't know where you got that information, but Haakonsvern is the sea defense's main base and is the biggest marine base of the North.

The other submarine docked in an English base. There were pictures takes, showing they masked the area on top of the hull where the rescue buoy resides.

I wouldn't rest your case just yet. That photo of the USS Dallas is certainly not at a Submarine Naval base. You see you need cranes to load torpedos. So I seriously doubt that it is a base for subs.

It's not only a sub base, Jenni, it supports a lot of other vessels.

Quote:
Haakonsvern contains the Royal Norwegian Naval Training Establishment (KNM Tordenskjold) as well as repair and maintenance facilities (including an underground dock facility with the capacity to take frigates).

Now it's time for you to let it sink into your brain, Jenni. Laughing

Where did you pick this up so suddenly Jenni? I saw a Belgium documentary about this, or better said a conspiracy theory. It went that far to claim that we barely escaped WWIII and that one the US submarines actually shot one torpedo at the Kursk that caused the Kursk's undoing. All evidence was circumstantial and indirect. It was interesting to watch but made me frown my eyebrows what the Belgians were trying to accomplish here.

Since you are incredibly tight-arsed today:

http://www.mil.no/sjo/hos/

Quote:

Straight from the official webside of Haakonsvern. Once again, U-båt = U-boat. And if you still can't believe it, you can give Deelix' cousin a ring. Laughing

hehe I reckon the lamest conspiracy theories are the ones surounding the death of Princess Diana - for some reason people cant accept it was an accident..

The driver was pissed, they crashed, they died. sadly it happens every day to thousands of people.. but for some reason a lot of idiots think the royal family are immortal Laughing
