|
 |
Well i picked up the HD-DVD player for 360 this weekend. It was $199.99 and came with KingKong.
Anyways im very impressed with the quality. Its much better than the HD movie channels i have, heck it looks better than any HD channel i watch. And how it integrades into the dashboard it really nice. I now have a split circle beside my dvd tray on the dash. Bottom of the cricle is HD-DVD, and the top is DVD.
IMHO it seems better or smarter to have two seperate drives for each purpose; my 360s dvd drive will not get over used for movies and games and vice versa. MY only gripe is that its a little bigger than i thought.
So far i have watched King Kong, Riddick, Superman Returns and they all look amazing. And the menu features are much better than standard dvd. Its nice to be able to access the menu while the movie still plays in the background. Alot of the HD-DVDs i picked up were also combo format, which i think is a very good idea. One side is DVD, the other is HD-DVD.
I would recomend this addon for any 360 owner with an HD set. And there is no HD-DVD player in the price range if you allready have a 360.
Anyone else have or try one. Thoughts?

I'm planning on picking one up for christmas since it also plays hd dvd's on vista without any additonal drivers. €190 for a hd dvd wich you can use both with the 360 and your pc is quite a nice deal.

Why do you say HD-DVD and not BluRay?

Kintama, no.
Supino, bluray has far more media coverage and it has a constant speed over the entire disk. The bluray writers are already out.

Blue ray playback that i have seen is subpar compared to hd-dvd IMO anyways. I have seen so many pour encodes on blueray. Well i think blueray will lose the war since it also isnt selling as much media as HD-DVD (What the guy at best buy said anyways) and the fact that everyone knows DVD, and hence the HD-DVD name is more common. (Im not sure about EU Jenni, only speaking for canada) And the duel format (Not sure if blueray has this) is a selling point right there. You can buy it for your existing player, then when you get your HD-DVD player, just flip the disk over. Also, i have never seen a blueray ad on TV but i have seen many Hd-dvd ads. And another thing. Analysits are very sceptical about blueray becasue of Sonys track record, all of there formats in North America have failed with the consumer market. Anyways, im happy with my purchase.
@Zeljo
It connects via USB. You first have to insert the instalation disk, then it promps you to connect the drive. Done
@digifred
I think microsoft said no games would be on hd-dvd. But microsoft always seems to under promise or hype there stuff. Even though microsoft said no hd-dvd games, i would be supprised if this changes in a year. (Like the 1080p updates) but this is all hersay, and IMO of course.
@d3rd3vil (Aka Supermax)
I have only tested it on my DLP 720p Native projector, but only running 720p and projecting to 103 inches; the quality was amazing. And maybe you need a better stereo system, i have a nyco intercooler running and i cant even hear my 360 running during movies. People used to ask the same about my projector, since it has 2 large fans. I dont notice it at all.

The reason for that is because blueray movies are still encoded with mpeg-2 wich results in poor quality compared to vc-1 (hd dvd).

Didnt know that. I just thought they were rushed encodes or something like that.

and theyre very expensive so no one is buying them and HD DVD is outselling BR 11 to 1

MS don't care either way, they have their codec on both formats, who ever wins MS wins regardless
