Have you guys tried any mission where you have to command a tank squad?
As a tank commander, I'm unable to find how to manually designate targets for my men (except from the contextual menu, and then they never fire even after giving them the order to open fire). With the english translation mod the briefing says: "Hold Secondary Mouse Btn." to select a target, then use "TAB" to cycle through targets. It should also be possible to switch from the machine-gun to the canon using the "F" key (I think) but I've tried nearly all the keys on my keyboard and I'm stuck with the machine-gun, the gunner never switches ammo.
When I hold the right mousebutton, it just zooms in and out or changes view. All key bindings are the default ones, and they seem to be correct.
Am I doing something wrong, or is my game not working?
Anyone else encountering these problems?

switch to gunner, do the firing yourself and command the tanks the normal way
the commanding seems to be broken because of the MG that you control somehow. I dunno maybe there's a way to get it work but just firing yourself works fine.

the cursor is missing in the vehicles for some weird reason
i find it impossible to steer or target anything with the mouse
it's probably a bug, or some fucking idiotic design

Thanks for the answers, so I'm not the only one experimenting these problems... I'm surprised nobody's complained about this bug before, it really prevents the game from being enjoyed, at least for me. I'm glad they've fixed the OFP tank driver "I avoid all trees and obstacles with my tank because I'm a fucking idiotic AI and think a tree will break an abrams" syndrome though, it's a step in the right direction. The only cursor I get as tank commander is the MG one... not much I can do with that. I hope they'll fix that shit.

Well - it worked the first time anyway. I've uninstalled it now and will wait for the english release. Had no problem with graphical lag what so ever.

The game is RIDDLED with serious problems ( as was the first OFP). I wouldn't expect it to be in good shape for a few months. You have to remember that the original OFP was made a legend by the mod community. It was also a revolutionary concept at the time. The mod community will no doubt improve on ArmA but obviously that will take time. Hopefully BIS will get a patch out fairly quickly that addresses some of the more major problems.

Nope, 7800GTX, 2gb ram, 3.8ghz X2. Perhaps I was lucky? I put all options on high apart from the resolution which I put on 1280x1024. Im sure the rest of you prefer having higher, but thats enough for me.

the game always works with the mds on gamecopyworld, and it has all been translated into english.

Armed.Assault.GERMAN.CLONE-GRATIS
Armed Assault (C)Morphicon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Store Date: 28.11.06 Protection: SecuROM7
Release Date: 29.11.06 Language: German
Image: MDF/MDS Size: 56X50MB
Genre: ACTION System: Win all
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Grafik: Die neuartige DirectX 9 Engine ermöglicht unglaublich
Panzerfahrer , Pilot , einfacher Soldat u.v.m. ins Geschehen
einzubringen.

What exactly is so great about this game?
I realize this is supposed to be a hardcore tactical shooter. Language and hardcore realism issues aside however -
1. Horrid command/feedback system.
When.....the....voice.....overs....are......done.....in....chunks....like....this, I feel as though I'm playing a 1980s game of somesort. If they read out one more goddamn set of numbers with pauses inbetween I may just have a seizure. Is it that hard to record in sentences instead of having the voiceactors say a bunch of words and then splicing them together in the most unnaturual way possible? I know radio comms are read slowly for clarity but...every....word....out....of...their....mouth....sounds...unnatural. Are these soldiers or cyborgs? Complete immerssion killer.
2. Most AI dumb as rocks, others lethally efficient.
I shoot Mr. rebel in the left arm from about 300 meters out while prone. He simply stands there for 3 seconds. Ok, maybe he is in utter mindfuck shock from getting shot...I'll buy that as I imagine I would be aswell. Next, however, he begins to run back and forth in a 15 foot line, back and forth, back and forth, as if patrolling on crack. His buddy stands and watches. This goes on for another 8 minutes, no variation, until I've had enough and end it. You would think they would call for reinforcement from the camp about 20 feet back or something?
That said, other AI have been quite lethal in terms of accuracy. Good job. I find it hard, however, to understand exactly how they were able to pinpoint my location in the darkness of dawn through only observing one muzzleflash from the initial shot and with no nightvision on there part.
I've also had teammate AI prone and stare at a wall (which, according to the order conversation I was hearing, they were providing "cover"). Taking cover...yea. Providing it for the team? Fuck no.
Overall, while I see where they are trying to go with the realism factor, the game simply feels ameturish, unfinished, and broken in most respects.
Just not seeing the worthiness here. Anyone care to enlighten me on the above points?
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.
