Im getting a new rig that's suppossed to be here tuesday. It's a pretty awesome gaming machine that I'm going to build. Would you recommend that I go straight for vista or should I stick with XP still for a while?

BUT you need at least a DX10 GFX card if your going to use DX10 games and progs...
PLUS you need at least 2 Gig mem for it to run smooth...
If you have a little bit older stuff then good luck...
I have a older SCSI card with a HD on it and Vista had no idea what SCSI it was...
My Sound Blaster gamer (yeh its old) Vista didnt know what it was either...
SO if your upgrading make sure its the latest goodies...
Other than that it is awesome, never had anything crash...
BTW: I got all my stuff to work now so I guess Im lucky... |
you forgot to add that DX9 games are fucked becoz they will not work

yup , thats why Vista has two direct-x - dx10 and dx9L
anyway the problem is this that every game /dx9 and older/ uses they drivers with the old analog system order and the new vista has new drivers with new system order /each new drivers are installed on a different level / .
The old windows games will not work becoz they drivers are allways installed in the system core level and in vista thats a big no no /example video codecs , sound drivers /.
Anyway now most o the games that are released today are for Win xp only , NOT for Vista .

Best advise at this point in time... both!
Vista sure is nice, but I don't think all the bugs will be worked out by January 30th.
You're still going to have games that won't work in Vista, and since it appears your building a gaming machine, what won't run on Vista you can run on XP.
Games aren't the only problem. I'm having a few problems with programs.
NecroViolator is right, Vista needs a lot just to run itself.
Once your satisfied with Vista, I believe you can get rid of XP.

I havent had any DX9 games crash...
Only a poorly programmed game crash so far...LOL...
Some cheap game for 9 bucks...
Other than that havent had any problems, BUT Vista does use alot of hardware...
Bill Gates has got his Windows backwards, he should be trying to get Windows as small as possible
and dont eat up hardware...
But its nice to use Vista...Pretty good...
Ive had more problems with XP than Vista...
Some programs dont run, but I think its because they use their own Interface...
Example : Deliplayer...Wont run in Vista...Argggg...I think its the Interface it uses...

It's out now to developers and oems, not retail stores. It will be in Jan. 07. This is due to hardware manufacturers asking MS to postpone launch for the sake of them having enough time to write and properly test drivers. Thrust me, it sucks to have an OS with minimal hardware support (even with the extensive driver package Vista boasts).

I agree with what was said earlier - just get both and do a dual boot for now. Some people have this magical idea, from where i know not, that vista will spontaneously run games faster than xp. As it stands, vista takes up 300 to 500 mb of your ram just on startup and will run your games a little slower than XP due to driver issues and/or dx9 support. It will run most dx9 games fine however (i tried guild wars and half-life 2). OpenGL games appear to run slower too, but given time that will probably change. As it stands now, vista is a flaming piece of crap on a stick with sub-par driver support and several bugs. Come release time I dont expect this will be much better, but give it a year or so and it may be as stable/fast as XP is now. But on the whole - Vista is NOT a great primary OS to be running.
fear the led zeppelin that was!

i just didn't like it
in fact i just formatted the billgates rls back to sp2, its not that great, they features arent THAT great but they would have more use in the future.
Once this becomes properly cracked via keygen or a proper crack then ill reconsider. If you like the style that much then google vista transformation pack 6 rc1. *looks exactly like vista*

If you have a DX10 card, then perhaps its time to upgrade to Vista. However, personally I would wait until there are plenty of "DECENT" DX10 GAMES before buying a DX10 card. Probably best to buy a 2nd generation DX10 card, a quad or more CPU, 4 gig of ram, 1gig usb, and service pack 1 for vista. If you move to vista before all this, I wouldn't class it an upgrade.

Personally I would stick with XP for now... Just seems to be lots of problems with getting games etc running on vista..

Well, got all my programs to run...he he...
Done alot of tweaking but they work...
Bloody permission is so pathetic and retarded...
I installed Vista and created my own account...
Shouldnt I HAVE Permission straight off the bat ???
Instead of giving myself permission to do things...So idiotic...
Owait, I just gave myself permission to goto the toilet and dump one...Later...
