Taken from Slashdot:
The MPAA is lobbying to make sure that home users authorize their entertainment systems before any in-home viewings. From the article:
Quote: | "The MPAA defines a home theater as any home with a television larger than 29" with stereo sound and at least two comfortable chairs, couch, or futon. Anyone with a home theater would need to pay a $50 registration fee with the MPAA or face fines up to $500,000 per movie shown." |
greedy bastards, like they haven't had enough money yet

although this is only lobbying ... I doubt that even in the USA something like this could be made law...

OK, wait.
THIS SMELLS LIKE BULLSHIT.
The slashdot article links to the site bbspot, which doesn't work. googling it gives this description of the site:
Quote: | BBspot is a satirical news and comedy source and meant to be funny. If you are easily offended, gullible, or don't have a sense of humor we suggest you go ... |
so looks like a spoof?

Heh. I really, really, really like my 100" projection home theater set up. I know this is a joke article, but damned if I'd pay someone *ever* (other than the merchandise, that is) to view this in my own home. Hell.
