Do you get an error message or it just doesn't open up?

Opens up, but no icons. Just an empty window.

Since the keys are hardcoded in the OS the first thing needed is a keygen that makes keys for all versions of vista.
Then something to patch the activation checks that still let's you update windows.
I'm guessing the latter is going to be a problem since MS probably wants to know what your key is before they let you on windows update, and maybe for automatic updates too, unlike windows xp

it is no longer possible to sign up for beta keys at Microsoft. So now there are no cracks that work anymore...

EDIT: Think the service was just down. I friend of mine just signed up and got a beta key, so seems to work still...

The way it looks, we'll be sticking with XP for a long time... If a crack hasn't showed up until now, it will not come in the near future.

Maybe it's important only the main days counter and not the minutes timer. Microsoft decided 30days of real time not of effective computer usage. Anyway Microsoft did an excellent job. Vista is uncrackable at least for the near future. I think we won't see a crack before 6 months.

Well, put. I did the 2099 trick on three separate clean install. Now "slmgr -dli" is reporting:

Time remaining: 33214 minutes(s) (23 day(s))

I have also received several notification in the system tray that said to activate vista. This is on a machine that has never been connected to the internet.

Anyway, we still have the "slmgr -rearm" plus registry "SkipRearm" key (have not tried yet, will do so when down to like a day or so), so I don't see a need to activate if it works even if the 2099 method does not. Well, at least until a scene release. But since MS employed hackers/crackers during the creation of vista, I feared all is lost. Crying or Very sad

What are these commands?

I'll try to reinstall vista on the same machine with an upgrade not with a new installation. Maybe it will reset the counter. If it works then we just need to reinstall vista every 29 days.

Is there a way to delete system32 files? Every time it says that i have not the permission. I'd like to try to delete files like slmgr to see what happens.

You have to take ownership of the files in question. File -> Properties -> Security.

The guy that invented the 2099 trick says that he uses the home premium version... Maybe that's the point. I think no one is using that version.

hmm not sure.. vista evaluation would be the same of all editions i would assume.. why would microsoft make one version used for non-ultiamte installations easier to bypass than the ultimate one? at the end of the day they built the evaluation in so that it "can't" be bypassed, regardless of what edition is installed.
despite using 2099 trick, my clock is still going down day by day with the odd few hours added onto it after each reboot Sad
have heard reports that RC2 keys arent being activated anymore either, so looks like we'll just have to hold tight and wait for a crack........ X(

2099 trick has an effect. Pc counts only the effective usage of pc instead of real world time so you did something wrong.

There is no "Final" crack at the moment, after a certain time all the vista's that aren't legit or running a beta key will stop running applications. Just got to hope there is some talent out there thats capable of beating M$ Wink

There is a new fix posted over at this thread http://www.thehotfix.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=7540&st=330 which the author needs help testing out. Seems to bypass the rearm counter. Its worth a shot... he says he has rearmed over 11 times now!

you can go to a command prompt and run slmgr -rearm to restart the 30 day activation timer. The catch is you can do this a max of 3 times. So all in all, you can have the full features of vista for the initial 30 days + 90 more days (3 rearms) before you have to activate. With this new crack you should be able to rearm an unlimited number of times, thus you will never need to activate vista.

If this crack works or not it's not a problem. 120 days with the three resets are enough. We can also format pc every 120 days...

ripped from thehotfix.net forum:

Quote:

Doesn't look too good on the x64 side of things. I'm getting the following message after following your steps (running slmgr -dlv/-xpr/-dli they all report the same thing):

Script: C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs
Line: 291
Char: 5
Error: 0xC004D302
Code: C004D302
Source: (null)

I noticed that on the x64 side, the original slmgr.vbs under system32 folder doesn't contain any text in it, but yours does. The original one in sysWOW64 does though. I've replaced both with your version.

This is on a machine without any internet connection. Installed clean with 2099 trick no rc1/2 keys used or token swapping. I had like 22 days left before trying this trick. Now, I'm afraid if I reboot, it's going to lock me out. Sad

Control Panel->System shows:

"This copy of Windows is not activated. Click here to activate Widnows now."

I've tried to change back to the original ones but it reports the same thing.

...But wait, after reboot, the Control Panel->System shows:

30 day(s) to activate. Activate Windows now.

vistatester -- you're the man! It looks like it's working. I'm still getting vb script error after the reboot when trying to execute slmgr -dlv from the admin cmd:

Script: C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs
Line: 685
Char: 25
Error: Object required: 'Int(...)'
Code: 800A01A8
Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error

But this could be from me changing back to the original slmgr.vbs and running that before reboot. So, it's probably means I can do the rearm 2 more times. Neutral

I'll post a report in a couple of days. :_

Believe or not to believe???
