I contacted Dell about their XPS 710 and 710....the 710 is a little out of my price range ($3,800) but the customer service woman gave me quotes on the Dell 700 with some upgrades...what do you think? I really don't want to make such a big purchase w/o some advise from the net.

Intel dual core 2 processor (2.4 GHZ..4 MEG)...not the extreme version though E660
xp media center (I guess no one has Vista yet)
2 gig memory
320 gig HD
Dual 512MB nVidia GeForce 7900 GTX
2 dual drives: dvd and dvd/cd writer
Soundblaster XFI card
USB keyboard/mouse
office software (inc Word, Excel and Outlook)
15 mths Norton
2 year in home warranty

Let me say that I am a gamer and want a computer that will be able to play the upcoming DX10 games/Vista.

Total price (w/ ship and tax) $3,154.20.....there is no monitor or speakers since I just bought a 26" Samsung LCD monitor.

What do you guys think? Anything that stands out? Is the core 2 extreme processor that diff than the one in this quote? (that causes the price to go up approx. $300.00)

If the Dell is not reasonable...what would you suggest? I don't know how to build a system and my price limit is around $3G-$3200G

thanks for taking the time to answer this email.

man buy the parts yourself and build it, you will save money. Why get 7900's they are only DX9 when the 8800 DX10 just came out. It is not hard to build it yourself and it would be a good learning experience.

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one

I totally agree with velum. Just get your own stuff. I posted my new rig in another thread just yesterday.

Thats as good as it gets sort a now. Of course you could buy another 8800 GTX for the hell of it, but honestly don't think you need it.

And be careful with DELL, sometimes its hard to upgrade or change hardware as its OEM. Had a DELL some years back and the mobo was just impossible to change due to cabling from the housing. That's when I built my own.

Though its not a bad rig what U show there, but the stuff I listed is better for much less money...that's the point.

As you see there is no HD and keyboard and stuff, but that I have since before.
HD's are sorta cheap anyway, get a pair of raptors, and put them in raid, nothing beats it for fast loading online. I got them cause I was playing BF2 a lot and it does speed up the loading time.

if you are comletely set on buying a premade machine you should:
a. change the 7900 to at least 8800gts

b.download vista (or xp) and office on your own and save money.

c.are you sure that you need 2 dvd drives?
