I do like it, but I'm no MS fanboy! You should hear me when I'm angry on WGA and activation and all the protection shit! You'll think I'm a *nix fanboy...

I don't understand why people are in such a rush to upgrade to Vista. If you're a gamer or intend to use Vista for anything but Word-processing, tough luck, as driver support suck major balls right now. Heck, there aren't even any official graphic-card drivers yet.

Vista is superioir to XP in every way possible. I had to go back to XP to do something, and it was unusual. I got used to Vista the last few days, so it was wierd going to XP. Lack of drivers is indeed a serious issue right now, that's why I have XP on the other drive, waiting for me to play Warhammer.

Well vista installed on another partition and activated of course and in dualboot together with xp pro, so what's the big deal ? Gaming etc with xp and experiencing with vista and i like it as well. Runs fine and more compatible drivers will show up of course within time. I can even play fear with the beta drivers if i want but i better wait for better gfx drivers to play games with it.

Somewhere:
Universal Patcher 6.0.6000.16386_final By d4op
Quote: | For 32+64 bit version of vista
Note: Last 'nothing patched!' is totally normal it's because 64-bit patch pattern can't be found in 32bit winlogon...
Anyway this is only a search&replace patch for winlogon.exe you still had to some manual get winlogon manually out and to the system
here are some hints to do so:
Exchange c:\windows\system32\winlogon.exe with that one
0. Make sure the Versions match
1. Start\rightclick on explorer\'run elevated'
2. Change Permissions:
Rightclick on c:\windows\system32\winlogon.exe
Security/owner and overtake ownership of winlogon.exe as administrator
Close securitydialog and reopen it
Change permission to fullaccess for administrators
3. rename winlogon.exe to winlogon.org
4. copy this winlogon.exe into c:\windows\system32\
(If you still don't have enough rights to set permission - try login as 'real' Administrator:
click on 'other user' and type in "Administrator"[ + password] )
How to see it is working:
Well counter will still count on so that will be no inducation
So forward your date beyond the activation period and check if you still can login - I you can do so the patch works as it should.
that's all
Beside this patch try The WPA ReArm Trick
Click Start\execute(or Press Winkey+R)
and run this:
rundll32 slc.dll,SLReArmWindows
or try the date-trick
set date on year in advance when installing vista and set it
back to the current after installation - and now you have 1
year+ 14 day to activate
d4op =P |
( sorry for my bad english )

Interesting... I wonder, is it possible to slipstream the patched winlogon.exe into the installation, and forget about activation ever again?

Tried it, but it didn't worked, after setting the date 1 month ahead, it's impossible to open Control Panel, logging into windows works fine though. |
And right clicking on My Computer, choose Properties, doesnt work either.

eek sorry. Anyway, I just thought I would post that the 2099 workaround does not work for me. I tried using the workaround (twice to make sure I did it correctly) on a hard drive with another partition on it, but not another version of windows. Is this a known problem for the 2099 workaround? I seriously wonder how people are getting this to work.

I think you should install windows on a fully formatted hard disk. Anyway this evening i'll see if this work around works. Just waiting that 25 hours are passed since installation.

So to make this clear as mud... you are saying that in addition to formatting the partition where windows resides, I need to also delete my other partition and format this disk as one large disk drive? Another question... should I disconnect my second HDD that also has files on it before installing?

I can confirm 2099 (or in my case 2050) works. Set the date in forward in bios, install and set it back in Vista.

This is the CRC for install.wim from the "Windows Vista Final English DVD Images (x86 and x64) 6.0 Build Final media images for Windows Vista English DVD's" x86 .iso:
sources\install.wim 9CE5862C
Apparently this doesn't match the BillGates release, or the BillGates plus MSDN patch.
I don't know whether it matches the WinBeta release.
SFV for MSDN .iso released on 17/11/06 http://pastebin.com/826175
