For me it wasn't a good year for gaming. I'd have liked to more games like Farenheit or a new Grand Theft with better graphics... There was a few games that I enjoyed though, such as
Company of Heroes, Pro Evolution Soccer 6 and Hearts of Iron 2: Doomsday.

But, 2006 havent been a good year... Soo many nice games that got pushed to 2007.
(ex. Hellgate london, Quakewars)

have to agree with you.
first year ever when nothing really stood out. pc gaming has drained out for me.
same crap over and over again ( with better gfx ). first chance i get spare money i will
turn to console gamer, it has been fun 15 years but developers have become extremely
lazy, no innovative ideas. sad but true.
/me slaps himself very very hard for spending loads of money on the latest pc upgrade. what a waste.

The future of PC-gaming is in MMO-games. At least until they can be done well on consoles. After that.. well, it's a pretty bleak future for PC's to be honest.
All in all, this year has been a series of broken promises for me when it comes to PC-games. And this year had alot of those BIG TITLES being released. NWN2, Oblivion, MTW2, GRAW, Faces of War. Alot of promises, some fulfilled but most broken.
Top3 for me so far this year is:
1. Company of Heroes
2. Heroes of Might and Magic V
3. Oblivion (just a bit above Dark Messiah, 100% due to mods, if vanilla then Messiah all the way)

Lots of good games came out this year, but many of them were too flawed to be as good as they could have. So it was kinda a bittersweet year for gaming.
But as far as gaming in the whole, I already expect LOZ:TP to be overall GOTY for me. GOW gets honorable mention.

So many games, but i'll have to say that my favorite games this year has been NWN2, Anno 1701, latest versions of OpenTTD, C&C First Decade and of course, Modded Oblivion (played it for a silly amount of time.. 250h+)

02 - GBA Zelda the Minish Cup: A great little RPG
03 - GBA Mario Tennis Advance Power Tour: Tennis games are usually addictive
04 - PC LOTR Battle For Middle Earth: The graphics are bad but its still one of the best
stratergy games I have played.
05 - PC Pro Evolution Soccer 5: Miles better then FIFA
06 - PC Still Life: A good story very hard puzzles
07 - PC FIFA 06: A good game harder then 2006 FIFA World Cup surprisely
08 - PC 2006 FIFA World Cup: Should have been the Xbox 360 version
09 - PC Warcraft 3: A classic
10 - PC Harry Potter Goblet of Fire: A fun game a bit repetitive

no no.. NWN 2 isn't a hack'n'slash game! True D&D 3.5 rules.
Though Never Winter Nights 2 is my choice for GOTY.

In my opinion it was a good year for action fans (like me). But I think strategians had a lot of fun, too (Company of Heroes, Anno 1701, Medieval 2). Many awesome titles, but not my genre  .
Lets look forward to 2007...
