Kaffeine if your a kde fan, else regular gmplayer for your gui multimedia player.
Gaming wise slashem for the boring moments where you can fit some rpg action in, wesnoth is another free game in the style of Warlords.
Openglad, kinda like gauntlet only here you recruit your own gladiators...
Can't quite remember the name of this game it's called Clonk world I think, it's a mixture between diggers, worms and settlers and it's great fun - got it on my gp2x handheld
Theres vendetta-online which is a mmo space sim, kinda like eve only in real time and with positional damage. Of course theres also the fantastic vegastrike+mods like privateer reborn and privateer gold.
I use gnucash to calculate my budget, openoffice for writing.
Kdevelop3 is a great ide again if your a KDE fan else doing everything from terminal works just fine thats the nature of the beast anyway.
K3B does everything I need from music ripping, dvd movie ripping to burning data and movies.
DosBox of course is mandatory relive your memories from all the old Dos classics.
E-UAE Linux port/version of WinUAE, yes WinUAE is based on UAE which is Unix but it has alot of added features, E-UAE has most of them aswell and it's definitely getting there with whatever is missing, else I could recommend experimenting with Linux hosted AROS www.aros-exec.org basically it's an Amiga-In-A-Box which can run Amiga libraries and even run e-uae hosted there.
VICE for your C= PET or C64 C128 emulation needs.
ZSnes of course supernintendo emulation ftw.
X.M.A.M.E Linux version of w32mame ui.
X.M.E.S.S Linux version of w32mess ui.
FCEUltra, fabulous NES emu.
GAIM Instant messenger akin to Trillian, supports most networks even msn.
I'm sad to say I still use wine+newsbin as I've found no worthy replacement on Linux,Klibido is not there yet, I'm sorry I need a gui and browsing capability with support for 1billion posts :dr.evil: /h
www.cdemu.org Kinda like Daemon-Tools only for Linux and without a GUI, your welcome to write one though.
Most windows games I like to play I can run through wine or there is a native build of them, if theres an odd game I can start windows for that, I'm mostly in Linux though even when working with directx
Welcome to Linux, Enjoy your stay.
www.gp32x.com <Linux based Handheld pwns all other handheld multimedia devices btw
http://linux.oneandoneis2.org/LNW.htm it might be worth it to read through this if your coming from windows so you know what to expect and most importantly what not to expect - It's 'not an open source "free" windows' it's Linux.
