All right so ive decided to assemble another box, only for gaming. Attempting to keep it as browser/music/movie/etc-free as possible for that extra yummy performance. I've got most of the parts picked out but im a bit uncertain when it comes to a videocard.
So i need some help from you guys to make the correct decision
I've used ATI cards exclusively for about 4 years and so far im very pleased. Not to say im a fanboy or anything but i like the utilities etc so a switch to Nvidia would have to be because of something extraordinary.
The cards im choosing between (and MY pro's and con's on them) are the following:
PowerColor Radeon X1950PRO 256MB GDDR3, PCI-Express, EXTREME Edition, ViVo/HDCP
Price: 210€
+Cheapest of the lot.
-256MB
PowerColor Radeon X1950XTX 512MB GDDR4, PCI-Express, ViVo, HDCP, 2xDVI-I, Retail
Price: 430€
+512MB
+DDR4
-Pricy, more than twice the price of the 1950PRO
Gainward GeForce 7950GT 512MB,1,4ns DDR3 ,PCI-Express, "BP7950GT-512-TV-DD"
Price: 330€
+512MB
+Price between 1950PRO and XTX.
-Nvidia
So what do you guys think? I might add that i am considering crossfiring two 1950PRO's, that is still cheaper than the 1950XTX. But the question is if it's worth it. Maybe better to go with the 1950XTX and if i need more firepower in a year, buy other one and crossfire those?
All responses appreciated
EDIT: Oh and yes, i know the next-gen cards have just arrived but i dont want to spend that much, and no, i dont want to wait half a year

You know, when technology drops in price that means it's outdated and old shit...

Then there will be a 8800GTX X2... Buy now, or don't. Hardware is really like that, there will always be a faster, better, cooler, bigger one out next month. If you feel that your rig needs it, just go for it, you will never really catch up anyway. I always buy my stuff in Nov-Dec due to that I have a lot of $ around that time. Some how it works. I bought a 7800 GTX 512 with a new mobo and and a 4000+ last Dec, now there is better bigger, blah blah stuff out, and it will make a definite visual impact to get the new stuff so i do. Who cares if there will be a 0.25% better gracard out in march. If you feel that its the right thing to do, just get it...or you will wait forever and even then you will not have the latest stuff 2 months after you make your mind up anyway. Be the coolest NOW! cause in 2 months your out.

It depends a lot on your expectations and also what resolution do you play at? If your limited to lower resolutions then the X1950Pro should get the job done.
The 7950GT is also a good card but does not benefit from the added memory as much as say a 1900XT 256 to the 512 version. Also the 7950GT has excellent overclocking potential so if your not into that type of thing then yeah.
The X1950XTX, this is a tricky one. The cards above can pull up to 1600x1200 in many cases decently but I wouldn't suggest this one to anyone unless they are expecting to play games at a MINIMUM of 1600x1200 otherwise its a waste. Also the GDDR4 does very little performance wise compared to the X1900XTX so look at it more like a 1900XTX with a quieter cooler which is what your really paying for.
Also have you taken into consideration the amount your potentially paying for a X1950XTX you could scrounge up a bit more and grab a 8800GTS?
I went from 9800Pro --> 6800LE --> X850Pro --> 7900GT --> X1900XT within 4-6 months and in all honesty the voltmodded 7900GT @725mhz destroyed my current 1900XT in just about every game.
I say either grab the X1950Pro and use it as a stopgap until the whole DX10 fiasco settles or go all out and grab a Geforce 8 series now.
Have Fun.
