woozap: i feel sorry for you. it must be bad to be you dude. Looking at the flipside of everything. Must be depressing.
I would play M2TW prolly even if it wouldn't be more than the rome engine in a medieval setting. It is more however. It may not have all the features of Medieval, but hey.. where was the 3D map, units and relaistic battlefields in MTW? Where was the living papacy? Where was the recruitment pool in MTW? or even RTW?
You point out a few things you find missing or not fitting your taste, and dismiss the game as being pathetic. Well, i say it is your problems that are pathetic. Let's see
"- No option to view city on battlemap, some people dont care, some ppl will. Its nice to see a fully developed town in 3d with nice new graphics and people doing their daily things. "
You can't be serious. It might be annoying to not have it in the game if you loved it, but to say that removing it ruins anything.. bah.
"- No titles, wtf no titles in a medieval game? it was really usefull for getting generals loyal to your cause and give them an important sphere of influence in your armies. "
WTF? Theres an awful lot of other things they could have included in the game, which they didnt. You just got used to titles after medieval 1, and now expected them to be there in medieval 2 as well. Tell you what: This is a sequel, not a remake. It would be nice to have it, and we might even get it in an expansion if there are really so many people longing to have it, but personally i find the game perfectly playable without having to assign titles.
"- No heir choosing, thats right you cant choose your heir. The game does that for you so what if you dont want son in laws to become kings instead of your own bloodline. The game says it has to be this way. "
Uhum.. well.. i could tell you 4-5 things more annoying than not being able to change the heir. It is either a bug or a feature. Its impact on the game is minimal though.
"- Battles, You can charge all you want, it will not happen in the game. Ye they will go down like passive sheep and make you wonder wtf they are doing and why your cavalry gets cut down vs peasants"
Cavalry really seems to have less momentum sometimes.. the fabulous charges of RTW are gone. but im sure they'll be back after a few patches, or in the worst case in mods.
Overally:
You expected the game to have all the goodies from rome and medieval together with none of the flipsides. You havent got what you expected, and now you are mad. I say think about the average quality of games released before you dismiss this one.
The game is not as good as it could have been. That one is true.
The game has some pretty annoying bugs. Thats also true.
The game is still more than worth playin.

That's a pretty pathetic reply to his very smart mini review with valid points. Shoo kid. |
Dude.. you call that a mini review with valid points? Then i guess my answer must have been a well written game analysis, enjoy.

This game is great, however it is not without it's bugs and shortcomings, I've no doubt all of these things will get fixed by patches and mods though, with this much fun already in the game it can only get better

Are we not entitled to our own opinions reflected through disappointment or otherwise?
The charge thing seems like a major issue, but it will be fixed soon enough.

What's wrong with the cavalry charges?
I've seen single cavalry charges wipe out 50 soldiers of a unit just like that.

Read page 11 for answers to all your questions regarding cfg files and editing.
Also it would be great if the op or mod could edit the first post to include that information, thank you very much.

1. It runs fine on my PC all on max. No need to show off specs because that is geeky.
2. About the reloaded hq shit, bwahaha. sucks to be you that you are still waiting for it i guess. I dont care what kind of leech acces other people have no need to show off mine. Lets just say i am on 20mbit and the pre was on 11:30CET.
To the others:
I have valid points everyone can bitch to me about it, but in the end my point is still a valid one. They took out some nice additions and god knows why? Because of the 2 year extra development time? Dont make me laugh. People who didnt like it didnt use it, and people who do like it like it because of the rpg elements in creating a dynasty which lasts the centuries, instead of just campaigning abit destroying/taking over a settlement there and here. Hey anyone know what year it is? oops its only turns this time around. Want your strongest son to be the heir? kill everyone in line before him. Like that would happen.
The information on France -->"The Baron Robbers of France, mighty Barons who made sure the King of France can't leave Ile de France at all blabla", but then when you conquer their lands you cant give titles away to your trusted generals in a totally FEUDAL europe? which was the case in those days? why do you think Generals did even fight for a king? for fun? For COINS AND LANDS no more no less.
Sorry for wanting abit of REALISM in my game. Realism which the Total War series became known off, now its just an "elephant equipped with cannons" kind of kiddy crap and its up to the community to make a decent game of it - like the rest of the game industry use to depend on the community nowadays.
Like paying for a Ferrari but you need to MOD the engine so it runs decent. Its all nice and shiney but doesnt run as smooth if you dont MOD the engine yourself. figurally speaking. Oh and the automatic car lighter has been taken out. Not alot of people smoke nowadays so we figured you dont need it either. Ye and sure we could have told that before you bought it but, heck why should we. Noone complained that it was in before so we figured noone complained if it is taken out.
I am not bitter at all in fact i am quiet happy i just think MTW 2 could have been more then it is now and if you lynch me for that go ahead, i dont care.

I'm going to do the unpopular thing and agree with Woozap. MTW2 is a great game, but I really enjoyed giving titles to random peasants in MTW for some reason. And he's right about choosing your heir aswell.
Hopefully, it'll be modded in.

Played some more as French (started again) Its a really good game. The stuff that have been pointed out is basically valid, though I am starting to like it more and more, sure its a lot like RTW with a lot of graphic improvements, but that's not a bad thing, or?
The new units like Princess and trader and what have you makes it more deep some how. still running on MAX! and no performance issues. I think a lesson in medieval history would not be a bad thing playing this game, i can only recommend TTC's lectures on the subject LINK They are all on the net...look for it

Lol that's a funny one. I don't pretend to know all the ways to acquire games but I would just say that you are a moron if you think everybody uses bittorent to get the latest releases.
Personally I'm getting this game on usenet atm, downloading at 2meg/s

Surray it has nothing to do with "expecting a perfect game". I could live with buggy battles no problem a patch cant fix. The point is why they took out proven Medieval 1 / RTW gameplay stuff which didnt harm anyone, which didnt require extra work at all only an option to give a title (aka add a treat/virtue to a commander) and some stuff which was in the engine already and made some people including me enjoying the game even more. (you can obviously see they used the passive city view to make the movies, you see peasants and folk walking around during the wedding movie for instance). Whats so difficult to keep this in and add the new stuff? i really do not understand. No this reeks of add-ons, which will make us believe we will get an entirely new "feature" and thats what i dislike about the game and for that the entire game industry nowadays they blatantly insult our intelligence.
I will play MTW 2 someday again after alot of community work and some add-ons ahem. I might actually enjoy it then, but no i will not pay for it, like i did for the other games in the franchise. I feel ripped off and made a fool. They didnt even mention it at all in previews / reviews / interviews you name it. They mentioned "the ultimate Medieval experience etc", but that can be anything and in the end it was for the worse, it was like if we dont talk about it, they'll buy it and find out but then the money is already spend.

They left 3 little things out that do not even change the actual gameplay and your making a fucking whine story of it. And not only that you call them fuckers for making a bad game, you do not even pay for it, you steal it and you stil complain. People like you dont even deserve a great game like this, pay for it, then you are allowed to cmplain.
I gues i`ve made my point.

What are you talking bout ?? Rome was not realism.. not by a LONG SHOT.... i think u might have forgotten how the orig game was ... and only played the mods (shit i only played the mods once they came out)
Remember these guys
Remember how like 10 of them could kill about 50 people no problem ??
Rome Total War (Original) was a ultra unrealistic game...... mods made it what we really loved... Rome Total War : Realism and Europa Barborum(sp?)
+ u seem to be a very angry person :/
